  • Im saving up for this one

  • to be honest I don't mind these all digital microcontroller or (even) SOC based things.
There's a 1st class SOC in the iPad itself which is hard to beat.
If it got knobs, it got to have a proper analog filter, which I doubt for this device.

  • Ty Unwin has spoken very highly of this synth. That says something.

  • dunno Ty Unwin, but many people praise Teenage Engineering... whose products I frankly call the rip of the century o:)
But I'm the first to applaud if this box contains an analog filter that beats a Casio HT700

  • I just watched them on Sonic talk talking about this and now I really want one :) It will be interesting to see whats under the hood once the iOS editor app appears....also I am now wondering what the other synths in the line-up might be.

  • Here is another from SonicState,

A mini review with the iPad app as well.

  • Makes the Noise-o Coast look far too expensive.

I gave up on minute 5.20, couldn't stand watching him twist his wrists anymore...
what a ridiculous sacrifice for cuteness sake, sorry...
please support your IOS developers instead o:)

  • This is a DSP mono synth that could equally well just be an app that would most likely run on just about anything...

But then comparing the 0-Coast to separate eurorack modules makes it look cheap or at least very reasonably priced.

y'all saved me a $100, I'm good with with my Nord Micro Modular.

Same take. Sounds good but does it sound better than any of your top five favorite iOS VA synths? MIDI knob boxes to control said VA come in cheaper.

But the real shortcoming that puts it on the pass list is that it's not really a stand alone synth. Not practically anyway. Lack of a non-USB MIDI input connection means that the only way to trigger more than the 5 pad notes on this thing is to hook it up to your iPad or computer anyway! Volcas are limited devices but they got this bit absolutely 'right'.

The newer stuff, like Xkey and other midi controllers and keys that were made for iOS are USB class compliant and would work here I think (?).

Sadly, no. The Modal isn't a USB host. It would work without a computer via something like the iConnectivity boxes or similar that have USB host capabilities built in.

I don't mean to pile on it. It's a cool concept, great price in hardware land and I think it sounds very very good. Just falling short for me to want to give them a hundred bucks, fair as that price may be.

I do have a Nord Micro Modular but nothing to run the editing software on.
Wish there was an iOS editor for the Nord Micro Modular...

  • Preordered the other week, looks and sounds like a lot of fun. They will release more Craft gadgets down the line as well. So basically it's Modals version of Volcas and Pocket Operators. Can't have too many Pokémons, so bring it on :p

@Samu Have you tried this one? http://nmedit.sourceforge.net/

It appears to be platform independent.

Unfortunately it needs an old very insecure version of Java so It's a no go...

It happened that I needed an old XP tower to run Creamware Scope, so the modular's software dovetailed in nicely.

  • My unit should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on how fast the Swedish postal service can do their thing without destroying the package in the process (they completely demolished a PO-24 pocket operator last week).

Started a FB group over at https://www.facebook.com/groups/ModalCRAFTsynth/

There are already people pimping it out with new knobs (lol). Will definitely be fun to see what people do with this little thing. :-)
