Help me understand how to use my Launchpad! (RGB and iOS versions)

Hello,

On the novation website, I see synchronized jamming happening between an ipad and iphone running launchpad, with a launchpad RGB between the two of them. This looks like great fun.

However, there's not much documentation as to how you'd get all of this rigged up. More importantly, I haven't realized the full potential of the launchpad on iOS. What all are people doing with it, and how are they doing it?

Anyone got some good links to tutorials which could be helpful?

Thanks!

We're here to help! you can try our blog with a ton of useful videos to get started.

  • Oh wow! Talk about super support! Hello novation! I apparently own a lot of your products and soundpacks! I am going to be plugging my launchpad RGB (or mk2, the one that has the pretty colors) into a retronyms wej for ease of use and because wires are annoying!

Can you do the cool lightshow stuff on iOS? Or just PC/MAC?

Also, do you have any manuals in .pdf I could read detailing how to do some of this stuff? I'm better with reading than videos.

And while I'm at it, in launchpad proper, when I switch from one pad to another within the same group, the pad currently playing stops before the loop ends and the other pad starts. Is there a way to modify that behavior? There are definately times I want to have it queued up so that the other pad starts after the current one playing ends, rather than an abrupt skip.

excited to meet mr. or ms. novation, proceeds to talk ear off

Yes you can from a sequencer like modstep or Cubasis, you just have to send the right notes with the right velocities to the LP.

There is an LP programmers reference not sur if its PDF or web based, just google it.
There is a great video done by someone doing it from FL Studio on YouTube, should be easy enough to find.

This is controlled in the pad settings (under edit pads button top right), it is controlled by bars rather than the loop length itself, so play will swap based on immediate (value of 0), up to 8 bars. You'll find it bottom left in the edit pads screen.

  • What Andy said! Thanks Andy.

  • Excellent, thank you all! Great support and fans, Novation Folks! Since I'm asking questions, what's best practices for bringing your own loops into launchpad to make them work out properly with everything else? Regardless of what the soundpack is, I generally get the beat to below 90bpm (we sippin in the h-town, okay).
Should I get an idea of how many "bars" are in it and set it to that?

For timing you will need to know either the bpm or the number of bars, LP will calculate what it needs from either of those.
I use blocs wave as my feeder into LP, so I get my loops and samples all working time and key wise in there. You can tweak the individual properties of the sample to get it to sound right alongside your other loops by adjusting the properties, then flatten it and set the key/tempo of that flattened file to that of your project afterwards, now your loops should transpose and time stretch to match whatever key/tempo you use.

    Hope this helps
