  • @johnfromberkeley I have Strum GS-2 and like it a lot, but it is not a very realistic sound. If you're going for a Virtual Guitar there are tons of better options.

There are only a few hours left in their 48 hour sale, but Pettinhouse.com is selling their complete collection of 11 guitars for $99. This is an amazing deal. You can do tons of things in their libraries that you can't do in GS-2 and most other libraries. I highly recommend checking out at least the video for their acoustic guitar:

If you want Fingerpicking and not just strumming, Realitone has Fingerpick:
    http://realitone.com/

Ample Sound has great guitars, and they have an excellent one for free:
    http://amplesound.net/en/download.asp

Other highly rated ones include Ilya Efimov and Orange Tree Samples.

If you are interesting in look for something a little different, there is Heavyocity's Scoring Guitars (only $50) and all the stuff at Dream Audio Tools.

There's crazy sales on all of this stuff.

I have to say it's the best bit of technology I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I know, hugely subjective, but there it is.

    Thank you.

    Pettinhouse appears to require Kontakt?

A few of them do. But many work with the free player. But kontakt is half off right now. : ).

I bought Ableton suite in June; not ready for Kontakt at $199, but it is tempting.

  • Having Kontakt is like having an iPad. It opens you up to a world of amazing free and cheap (few dollars) instruments. Amazing things either totally free or for two to four bucks.

And it's the only road to many of the most cutting edge paid virtual instruments, although my favorite one, Bohemian Violin, is on UVI.

  • Dunno if anybody mentioned but Izotope's Stutter Edit is also 80% off til Dec31st, that + Trash 2 is a sick sick effects suite.
