korg gadget does jazz etc

picked up the last iap i am interested in within gadget. gladstone. really sounds nice. although i know desktop bass and drums were pretty far ahead i have personally never had such playable ones in my keyboards /daws. and of course, so cheap.. passed on kamata and m1 (a little surprised at how many people love the m1, since i started out in bands right after they were everywhere and i never liked it, although my first keyboard was the 01/w).

anyhoo, improvised something quick last night, using the piano, upright, and drums within gadget. loving it.

my only remaining gripe with gadget is recording the first bar of played parts (not sequenced). gadget ignores anything that is even a millisecond before, rather than recognizing the depressed notes as notes. so if i wait for my 2 bar countoff and play naturally i have an empty start and have to sequence it in.

  • Very nice feel. Sounds a bit like the Bad Plus. Is the upright a midi instrument? And the piano, too? Terrific feel on the bass. I also picked up Gladstone, and while I love the sound, it's a little tricky with such a realistic sounding kit to not draw attention to quantization. I think you come pretty close, but I've never met a drummer who is happy to play the kick exactly where it should be like that!

hey thanks! yeah, it's all gadget. the bass is with the madrid gagget on the second upright bass preset, and the gladstone played freestyle, but with 32 quantization to help me , both played with the korg nankey studio (which feels wonky but actually responds well). i mostly like doing stuff with electronic drums if i am going to be sequencing because it tends to be unconvincing(like you say) but gladstone feels pretty nice and with more care, automating decays and slight pitch variations, i'm sure i will be happy.
