  • So BlocsWave and Loopy etc will recognize what you plug in there as an audio input?

  • I will know by Sunday!

Cheers all. Obv I'm able to google such things but this thread has brought up a few ideas that I hadn't considered. decibelle I gave a bit more info in one of my follow up comments but it's fine. This has helped

@SheffieldBleep , I did read your follow up comments before I posted last time, and if any info at all was there about what you wanted to record, or plug into the interface, or anything like that, I was unable to find it.

This info is very likely to save you from costly mistakes. But it's fine, good luck.

Essentially I want to be able to record line in audio from a variety of sources including radios other ipads iphones and other electronic knick knacks

Oh my goodness,, if you do it in mono it's so easy, no interface needed at all, just one of those adapters splitting headphone input & mono 3.5 or 6.5mm jack socket. Those are cheap & easy to find everywhere, the 3.5mm one looks like a regular headphone splitter (but isn't).

In stereo, that's more complex, but at line level like you want, you can totally save your money, awesome! :)

    Thanks!
that sounds exactly what I would want to hear but do you mean something like this: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/ik-multimedia-irig-amplitube-interface-adapter-n26jk?cmpid=ppc&gclid=CN-CycGe1tACFQUW0wodJ9INLw

Or is there something more generic that would do the same?

@SheffieldBleep , Definitely not like that!

This is an example with a 3.5mm sized mono socket:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004SP0WAQ

I've heard a number of tales of woe about that iRig, it seems to be the bottom of the barrel cheapest of all the cheap and nasty interfaces.

I sure hope my information is wrong about that one.

Anyway, save your money, that cable adapter should be all you need.

Fabulous. Perfect. For the money it's a no brainier to give it whirl. Thanks for all your help

    My pleasure. :)

If for any reason it doesn't work well:

    Stop for a sec ...
    Breathe ... (heh)
    See tip:

    Troubleshooting Tip
You might need to convert your 3.5mm input stereo signal to mono, but you can do it with an adapter, again easy, plentiful, cheap, for example:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002DWAXKU/

Good luck, and please report back, I'm excited to find out how it went! :)

  • @decibelle. Once again thanks for the advice. Fingers crossed. I got the adapter too just in case. Looking forward to some lofi radio signal shenanigans :)

  • Guys, I just borrowed an M-AUDIO interface (not sure which exact model). It's not working with my setup.

It was just on loan so I'm not gutted that it didn't work out.
But I was just about to drop money on the Behringer 204 when I noticed in the photos that it doesn't have AC power IN on it, so I'm a bit concerned it will throw up an error like the one in the screenshot.

Has anyone played with this gadget and found it to work on iOS, even without external power?
    https://m.music-group.com/Categories/Behringer/Computer-Audio/Audio-Interfaces/UMC204HD/p/P0BK0

I'm considering getting the next step up (404) which has an extra 2 inputs plus external power, but before I do, I was wondering if anyone has tested the 204 and can confirm that it can work?

  • @SkillipEvolver Have you tried using a powered usb hub ?

  • No but I don't think that would work for me in my setup.

Because it only has 1usb port on it, and it is occupied (USB leading to camera connection kit -> iPad).

    That's a small hub.

I have connected a 3-port USB hub to CCK/iPad Air2, used an A-A USB cable to plug a portable rechargeable power pack to the hub, then plugged a (more) power-wanting interface into the hub, and that got it all working for me.

Granted this was for a single port mic interface providing phantom power for one mic, I don't know if this would be enough juice for your interface/iPad setup.

If you have one, the power pack plug-in thing might be worth trying though.
