Touchable app - forum on website removed
Touchable seemed to have removed the forum from their website http://www.touch-able.com/. Lots of people had started complaining about issues not being resolved with latest versions of Ableton and no word from developers in months. Worry as its same people who do Studiomux I think. Is it abandoned now?
I'm using LK (Beta testing) now as my Ableton touch controller and it's great so not missing Touchable much but I use Studiomux a lot so starting to worry. Anyone know any more?
Comments
do you prefer LK to touchable?
I use touchable and it's great. But there are bugs.
I also am a little worried as I use studiomux also.
They still haven't fixed the missing folders etc for samples etc in the left column. This is a fault which arose from there last update ages ago.
The fix I found was to install the older pc file which I luckily kept.
They better rise up and take control.
You and me have spent money on this !!!
Running a forum is a lot of work. And, as you noticed, it looks really bad if you can't get in there an answer folks questions. Think people often put up forums in the hope that it will work like this one: users answer users. Everybody wins.
Yes, they make StudioMux and MIDIMux. They also make a little known app called ModStep. Pretty deep set of apps for a small team. I hope they're doing ok!
Yeah LK is great, I'm beta testing and updates are coming fast and it's just solid and flexible. Touchable just to temperamental to worth bothering with for me
@syrupcore damn didn't realise they did Modstep too, guess they're just focussing on that for a while. Hopefully they'll return to fix issues in touchable as seem very responsive with Modstep
same thing happened with the samplr forum
There's another app in the works from those guys, pretty cool, can't say more. Might be prioritizing on the short term...or maybe they've found this forum to be all that's needed!
Ah very interesting. There were a lot of annoyed users on that forum though, a message from devs would have been helpful, just to clarify what's going on. Deleting forum seems like a snub

Before fully transitioning to iOS I used touchable and Ableton Live, and I loved it.
To be quite honest I never found a controller (and push-like matrix player) that I liked so much. From what I can see, LK seem as good.
For a touch screen that kind of matrix organization seems to be much better to play fluidly than a skeumorphic piano row.
I miss that more than the clip launcher to be honest.
I've tried Lemur, but the workflow and interface is not for me.
Would anyone know if there is a good, polished touch matrix pad player that works with MIDI for iOS?
Can you point to a video, as I'm not entirely sure I understand what it is you're looking for.
I think ModStep is close to what you're asking for (made by the same developers), but I could be wrong. If you just want a grid controller, you could buy a novation grid (or the $25 Behringer knock off).
I'd be surprised if they're abandoning this app. Plus plenty of their peers/friends in Berlin use it.
But if you're worried, ask them on Facebook/twitter. They're usually pretty responsive.
Just noticed it... I thought I was having problems with my browser... What a shame... just bought the thing about 1 month ago...
But, isn't ModStep also from the same developer/s?
Thanks for the reply,
I have a love/hate relationship with modstep. I love the idea of it, but I never got into the workflow the app dictates.
What I'm looking for is mostly this:
I got pretty proficient at playing those kind of matrix and I found no proper substitute on iOS yet.
Cheers.
There are quite a few. Have a look @ the following apps:

So far Touchable has been the best iOS to AbletonLive interface...however, it is quite unstable and fussy @ times when connecting. I've tried all of the iOS <--> Live apps and it just flows the best...bugginess aside.
I've saved for the past few months and decided to go ahead and get the Push 2 since it's 20% off so i can avoid the headaches of iOS connectivity, so we'll see how that goes
does touchable also allow you to use it's isomorphic mode with other iPad apps?
@Retzilience You could knock something like that up in lemur fairly easily (in fact I'm sure there is something like that already).
Kinda, you have to have it connected to a server, than it receives and send midi, but you have to have a laptop running the server. Kinda troublesome.
Beware, last time I tried this was like 1 or 2 years ago.
@echoopera Thanks for the reply, I'm actually trying to find things to use without ableton, only iPad midi, I'll check out Conductr, might work.
@cian last time I tried Lemur I found some templates that were not at all at the same level of touchable, I kinda felt disappointed, and I guess I suck at creating templates, ill take another look, thanks.
really, I thought they implemented direct usb cable operation, so they did that but to use with internal apps you still need the server.... unfortunate if that's the case, but thanks Retz
Oh in that case you'll want to forgo Conductr...it's Ableton/Traktor only
Another good one is LK. The new Beta looks promising for iPad Virtual Midi control.
LK big update released to store in a couple of days according to dev. Nuno is very responsive and I've been very impressed with the app in Beta, very stable unlike touchable in the last few months
That's now a forum, you can't touch. (Yeah, very bad pun based off the app's name.)

Yeah I've not tried them out personally so they may well be terrible. Just remembered seeing them.
Which server are you running if you are using it with Live. I couldn't get it to work yesterday.
Oh dev supplied me a link to download latest server app called ubridge, it's not the one on website. It's for beta I believe, are you beta testing? If so best to contact dev, he gets back to you quickly
Yep. Just fired off an email. Thanks.
