Computer Music names Auria Pro one of 3 Runner-ups for DAW of the Year
Computer Music named Auria Pro one of the three runner-ups for DAW of the year!
The prize for Virtual Synth of the Year went to Sugar Bytes Factory, which is rumored to be heading to iOS at some point.
The VST/AU PPG Phonem was a runner-up.
They are doing a bit more iOS coverage lately. In the current issue there are reviews of ODYSSEi and Klevgrand Tines.
They really should have prizes in their CM Music Awards for best iOS synths, effects, etc. They have done special issues on iOS apps, but I think that they are halfway, but not fully embracing the idea that iPads are part of the spectrum of computer music in 2016.

Great! Congrats, @WaveMachineLabs!
Well done @WavemachineLabs. Congrats
Great news, both for Auria and for iOS music making in general.
Sure Fl Studio Mobile Hd can't be on the podium , the new version is not a daw anymore but a mascarade ...Thanks god we have Auria Pro and Cubasis on IOS .
Yes but giving a price to an iPad DAW when there are dozens Desktop DAWs which are more powerful, and giving to Auria Pro rather than Cubasis is kind of a joke (moreover now that Cubasis 2.0 has been lauched) ...
This is my own humble opinion, but I admit that my first reaction was to laugh...
@ElGregoLoco : The joke part is lost on me. Are you saying Auria Pro is a joke compared to Cubasis? #justchecking
@WaveMachineLabs Freakin sweet job Rim! Keep up the excellent work.
I'm sayinf that yes... but I also clearly said that it's only my humble opinion.
From my own experience, Auria Pro is a bag of bugs, less intuitive than Cubasis and is way more expensive (mostly because it relies on great but awfully expensive iAPs)... And it's even more subjective, but I have to admit that I often felt that people praising it were very condescending...
But that's just my opinion once again. And I'd be happy to read yours man.
Peace.
Auria Pro is certainly not a joke, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have both AP and Cubasis on my iPad. I enjoy using both and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.
I have to say though, since Cubasis was updated to 2.0 I have been using it a lot more over AP. I just find it more intuitive and easy to use. Also, to give some perspective, when you factor in some of the IAPs the price of AP is in the hundreds of pounds; more expensive than Ableton Live Standard is at the moment.
That doesn't mean I'll be deleting AP any time soon, though. It's a great app that deserves recognition.
Well done Rim, you deserve the accolades.
Exactly, but some people just believe anything they read on the internet.
I would never say AP is a joke man... It's a great DAW on iPad, one of the best... but it's far from the greatness of Cubasis 2.0 IMO... and even further from Desktop DAW.
The joke for me is a magazine which is supposed to be written by music specialist and which puts AP in the 4 best DAW in the world... it made me laugh at least
Thx man... I was ready to be flamed by the Auria fans ;-)
All I heard was "iOS music making: legit"! Won't stop! Can't Stop!
Well done WML! Happy user of both AP and Cubasis (and Gadget).
Er, say what now? Did you read my comment?
Yes fully... and re-read again... It seems that we agree on the fact that AP is great but that Cubasis 2 is better.
Sorry if I did not understand something ;-)
...
You are definitely entitled to your opinion. I just found it slightly...I don't know...rude, or disrespectful towards the developers. If I had poured 1000's of hours of blood, sweat and tears into something, most probably sacrificing time with friends/families/pets/whatever and someone called it a joke I would find it disrespectful. I'm probably old fashioned.
I use both AP and Cubasis 2. I love both of them. I use both of them in waves, where I prefer one over the other at times. I totally respect the devs of both apps, in fact of all apps that we use, even the apps I don't particularly like myself, as they contribute to the freedom of choice and a greater platform for us all. No flame from me, this isn't religion.
It's really all about opinions, isn't it? Computer Music gave theirs. Not sure where the negativity is coming from here.
Nice to see recognition for an iOS DAW. Auria Pro captures the ear of the world-at-large as it's the most ambitious DAW on the platform, the closest to being a DAW on iOS (AFAIK) as the world knows it. Cubasis 2 is also a great app but lacks some important DAW capabilities. If your opinion is based on that, the award for AP makes sense.
Congratulations @WaveMachineLabs / Rim!
RE: DAW ABC vs. DAW XYZ
I love Auria Pro and it's become the heart of my home studio. My old M-Audio era ProTools hasn't been used in almost 2 years, same with Reaper (which I experimented with). They're great DAWs, but for MY style, MY purposes, Auria is just perfect for me.
I think the old brand/fanboy thing misses the point. It doesn't matter, if YOU have found your comfort zone & feel strongly for a piece of kit (DAW, guitar, synth, mic), enjoy & be creative.
RE: Auria Pro Recognition
Living in Vegas I've seen some cool project/professional studios and when I was in college program for Music & Recording Technology we got to tour the Palms Studio.
Seeing SSL AWS consoles & badass classic UA hardware comps & mic pres of all levels was always cool. I remember talking gear to different guys, telling them about Auria (pre Pro upgrade) and how I was going to do iOS based production at my home studio for songwriting, demos & projects.
When I would show cats Auria either on my iPad or from pics downloaded on my phone yes I'd get some dudes acting like it was a toy or copping a "why bother, use a laptop" attitude. But mostly I had very positive response and most of them were amazed an iPad could host a full featured DAW and have it run smoothly.
That was with Auria v.1, before the other incredible advancements that Rim & Co. included in V.2 & Pro. I think WaveMachine & Auria Pro deserved this recognition and hope it brings more musician/producers to discover how incredible the iOS music production scene is.
Once again, I never said and would never say that AP is a joke....
this would be direspectfull.
It's the journalist putting AP in the 4 best DAW in the world which is a complete joke IMO...
It's not because I say that you're probably far from being in the 10 best musician in the world (sorry if you are ;-)) that I don't respect your music and you as a musician...
Right, sorry. I guess I was confused by your reply here:
Anyways...let's move on.
I own both Auria and Cubasis.
Auria: 960,000 ppqn (same as ProTools, Logic etc) Real time audio warping and time stretching (same as ProTools, Live, Logic etc). Bussing and Subgrouping (similar but not as powerful as ProTools, Logic etc). Industry leading plugins (PSP, FXPansion, FabFilter, Drumagog). AAF exporting (compatible with ProTools, Logic etc). Sample player with disk streaming that loads 10GB+ sample libraries. Two synths (one of them the FabFilter Twin, which matches Diva, Zebra, Massive etc). 64 and 32 frames buffer size (in the next update, same as ProTools, Logic etc). 32-bit floating point audio engine. A great developer.
Cubasis: 48 ppqn. Time stretching but not audio warping. No subgrouping or any advanced mixing. Sampler and sample player (no EXS loading, unknown about disk streaming capabilities). A lovely synth, but not as powerful as the Twin. No AAF exporting. A great developer team.
Both of them support AU, IAA and Audiobus.
TLDR.: Of course, everyone is entitled to opinions and preferences, and that's why I only stated facts above. It's also a fact that Auria is closer to the leading Desktop DAWs feature set than the remaining iOS DAWs(and in fact on pair with Cubase Elements for the PC, which is itself a Desktop DAW). That's why Auria was chosen by Computer Magazine, even if some people prefer (meaning enjoy more using) Cubasis, Garageband, MTS and even N-Track.
Congrats Rim and team!
Also congrats @sundhage and team!
@ElGregoLoco it's not top about DAW in the world. It's specific to DAWs with significant new releases in 2016. And probably a bit of a head nod towards the price:value ratio as a factor.
Next year: #1!
Rim had his small team have done a great job. This app was one of the reason I went Full IOS. My channel on YouTube was driven from there app. 1st in my book 1st I go to
Rim is a one-man-team!
Good to see this, perhaps it will stimulate iOS investment from the likes of Waves, Antares, Izotope etc.
I refuse to listen to any songs unless they are made on the #1 DAW in the world. I don't actually care how it sounds as long as I approve of the tools used to make it (and the tools who made it in many cases...). The mark of a great song is how many ppq that the midi sequencer is capable of, Grammy ties are decided on that every year.
Great music cannot be made on cubasis- put the Beatles on cubasis and they sound like Mr. Trololo.
But seriously, I don't care what tools someone uses, but to clear up any misunderstanding, Auria does not rely on expensive IAP's to function. Everything needed for a great mix is right in the stock version- the channel strip is fantastic. Are the IAP'S great? Yes. Necessary? NO. Actually, there is no daw that I know of now that does not have the tools in stock configuration to make a good mix, even gadget and garageband.
And, with AU hosting, you can use other inexpensive plugins if you choose to do so.
Now, where did I put that talent plugin again?
You have a point: the most advanced tech The Beatles used to record their material was a four-channel tape recorder.
P.S.: Auria's channel strip plug-ins are PSP's, so I second your opinion about them.
Fair enough then, it's no big deal anyway... And I admit that I felt a bit ignorant when I read the post @theconnactic (thx for all these precise infos man)... I wish we could have better zoom precision and time warping in Cubasis, it would be awesome (AP is simply too complicated for my simple mind I guess lol).
Peace.
