Making Music. 74 Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Producers.
This is going to be trouble But maybe good trouble at that. I have been asked about a List....
Have to say that the Ableton site for the book above (https://makingmusic.ableton.com) is v. pretty in its simplicity (Surely worth borrowing for something or other....). No idea about the book of course yet.
Look forward to other ideas folks might share...
An obvious one is any of the Pocket Operators of course.
Or a Korg Monotron.
SunVox.
Actually Alexander Zolotov (of SunVox fame) has some mini hardware devices, though not sure if they're available at the moment:

@nrgb I can't believe you didn't put in the best one— the MS 20 will real patch cables makes me want to giggle like a four year old.
Oh dear. Hadn't see this one. Have another on The List already but think I'm going to have switch it out. How can you not?

I wonder what I'm getting for Christmas? :-)
They look awesome. Would be good if it had an app to upload patches to it from your phone or tablet.

@kitejan Ive had a play with the Teenage Engineering PO's - they feel awful flimsy! Always been interested in the Patchblocks as Pete Kember (Sonic Boom / Spacemen 3) bigs em up. I get the impressions that as per the name you need to buy a few to get something going though
I was wondering that - but I played with the (free) editor and some of patches running a single block are pretty impressive. I'm thinking in my current setup handling droney/blippy sorts of noises with enough stuff programmed into the 2 controls to give lots of possibilities. Ask me after the 25th....

Sounds interesting - very interesting - will explore more - just watched one of their videos and yes it seems I was mistaken! I wonder If I could sneek a last minute pressie in too
The Patchblocks ship from Germany - took about over a week to arrive - just bear that in mind if you are wanting delivery for the 25th! You might find someone on eBay selling that can ship quicker.....
And they are definitely lo-fi & limited - but very flexible - synthesis and/or audio processing and/or sequencing (and you can code your own "blocks" if that takes your fancy). I like the idea I can design the patch at home, load it to the block and voila! Its all battery powered and stand alone and doesn't require a laptop to run it. Of course the downside is that you cant change the patch without a laptop :-)
