iOS 10 / iPhone7 prefers 48kHz now?

I noticed this with my Dragonfly Red when no music apps are running, that it defaults to 48kHz instead of 44.1. Although it works fine at 44.1 as soon as I use a music app including the built in music app. Also my Rode iXY no longer works at 44.1kHz at all and Rode support said it's only 48 and up now.

Any developers know if this is a hardware or software change recently? Just curious if Apple is now preferring a higher sample rate or if it's just something I never noticed before. I figured a change like that would have gotten more press in the music community, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks!
