AU's
So i have almost all AU's and iam using them more and more, but i want more
anyone know any good gossip on coming AU's ?

Comments
I don't know if the AUv3 developers have a 'secret' hangouts for discussions.
But it always feels like a 'happening' when a new AUv3 hits the AppStore
AUv3 interface on the iOS has it's limitations regarding on screen-space and things like that making it quite tedious to adapt a fullscreen UI to AUv3 without sacrificing too much functionality.
I know I'm in a minority here thinking that it's better to edit the sounds using the full app and sequences them using a 'preset-player' with limited editing/real-time adjustment capabilities.
I do like what Wolfgang Palm has done with his apps, it's a good 'balance' at least for me.
But sure If anyone has any gossip let it roll
There is stuff in the pipeline.
Well if it's anywhere near as great as PhaseMaker then we're in for a treat
I heard that ivcs3 had been having an affair with a moog, but then aliens abducted it. At least that's what the newspaper in the supermarket checkout line said...
I still want an AU version /equivalent of BS16i.
That might be pretty hard to do with the 'sandboxing' and all.
Don't know if the AUv3 instance when run inside another host can directly access files from other apps containers.
It would be neat to have a AUv3 'sample-player' that could import/load sounds directly from iCloudDrive/AudioShare as an example but I really have not dug into the specs as to what an AUv3 is allowed to do.
Maybe @brambos can shed some light on this?
Oh love it, i dont know i like everyrhing in AU maybe some of the workhorses could be ported, synthmaster, mashine, animoog cassini, iam thinking alot of the great synths from a couple of years ago would be great as AU, magellan, sunriser, arctic keys, all virsyn synths and the icegear synths... everything
Oh and all the kymantica gear and the korgs
I think ivcs3 is coming before Christmas as an AU because there's an ad on the apesoft webpage
http://www.apesoft.it/
Is it going to be AU as well? Pretty sure it's coming to the iPhone, as the picture confirms, but didn't know it was going to be AU too, that would be pretty sweet though
I, for one, welcome our AU overlords. I really hope apple invests some resources in making it bulletproof for the sake of musicians. And throw in a sound filesystem, please, or make it easier for developers not to have to be copying audio back and forth.
Personally, I like the AUs.
But, it really hasn't changed my workflow at all.
I only can play so many apps at the same time.
My issue is more cutting down on content per song actually. Less is more for me these days.
Certainly. Short answer: it's a pain.
Long answer:
Getting user samples in and out of an AU plugin is a major issue. For starters, icloud access and "Open in.." (both getting files into and out of the plugin) consistently result in an insta-crash of the extension. If there is a way to do it, I haven't found it yet.
So everything has to go through the container app. This kills the nice integration aspect of AUv3. Because once you have a nice thing going in your DAW (e.g. Cubasis, Auria, ...) and you want to import a new snaredrum sample, you'll need to exit the DAW, start the plugin's standalone container to do the sample management and then go back to your DAW. The whole point of plugins is that you don't need to do that incessant god-awful task switching of standalone apps anymore. So there's that.
To make it even worse, the plugin and the standalone container can not access each other's filesystem. The only option is to set up a sort of "shared mailbox". The container can put the user samples into the mailbox and upon startup the plugin can check the mailbox to see if there's something new. It requires a nasty error-prone synchronization method and iOS supports in no way. Hosts also dislike plugins that take too long to load (that's why Cubasis has loading issues when a project has too many plugin instances - as recently shown in one of Jakob Haq's videos). So loading large sample libraries upon startup is likely a no-no and will require a clever workaround to still allow instant playback in a DAW.
So, yes. It's a pain. Good thing I'm more of a synth person than a sample person
It would be great to have a basic au step sequencer to use in AUM. Unless there already is one???
@brambos do you get the sense that apple is aware of these issues and are going to fix it in future releases? Or do you feel like it's not really on their radar?
To be frank I have no idea what Apple are up to. I speak with the Garageband guys from time to time and they are on top of things, but the AU architecture is managed by a different team (the Core Audio team) - who are not very responsive. They rarely answer questions, but they do fix bugs when reported to them.
I hope that AU will get some renewed attention from Apple now that it is gaining much more traction lately.

That's good too
If you run out of ideas here's a 'classic' VST(Chip32) that could be a nice inspiration for an AUv3...

How about wavetable synthesis?
I would like to see something with an interface like Twin2 as an AU
Fabfilter Twin2 is really really awesome, but, the small screensize into Auria Pro is a pain!
We can only wish that they someday release it as an full blown app to all iOS user... It's huge, maybe the best to iOS!
We haven't seen anything new from Kymatica in a while. Perhaps he's working on AUifying the AUFX series? A fella can hope.
he is working on Gestrument 2 is what I've heard @syrupcore
yep

@brambos
While rewatching the top 20 greatest synths of all time videos, the guy discussing the DX7 came up with an idea I think you should look at. Using FM type sounds in a sequence. Maybe in a similar sense to how Wavetables or the iWAVESTATION works. Using snipits of FM sounds in sequence.
I think it's on Episode 6.
As you have made one of the best (in my opinion) synths that uses a type of this synthesis, I wondered what you thought of the idea?
I dream Gadget add AU one day, but I think is just a dream
