IK Multimedia introduces new iRig Nano Amp - Micro Guitar Amp/iOS Interface
iRig Nano Amp is a $49 compact battery-powered self contained micro amp and interface for iOS that you can use by itself, with headphones or even an external speaker cabinet — up to a 4x12" one.
It features the iRig circuitry so you can plug your iPhone or iPad into it with the included TRRS cable and tap into iOS apps.
The dealbreaker for me is that the interface goes into the headphone jack (!!!!!) like the old iRigs and not like the new iRig Pros.

What do you think? Does this sound interesting to you? I'd like to know what it sounds like through its 3" speaker.

If only it had a digital connection to the iPad (Lightning) and not just the analogue headphone one......
@AndyPlankton Yeah, I just noticed that and added it to my original post.
It's a shame, I would probably have put it straight on my XMas list otherwise.
No good for synths. Just saying. But apparantly not the target market either. Or what ever they call it.
I wonder if it could be transformed into a ghetto talkbox...
Ummm, so, didn't anyone tell IK that Apple is in the process of removing headphone jacks from iDevices?
iPhone 7, maybe the mini 5 (it's been talked about). Plus, listening to the demo, I'm thinking that one would get better and less tinny audio out of the iPad speakers themselves. Of course, YT in the way, but still. Sounds pretty lofi to my ears.
As a guitarist, I would not buy one...![:open_mouth: :open_mouth:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/open_mouth.png)
I'd be more inclined to get a HiZ->lightning adapter, use existing amp/cab sims and blast out through the iPad speakers. Oh, wait, I already do that kind of thing![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I guess it's perhaps attractive to the guitarist who isn't an iPhone/iPad user (as an iDevice musician already) but owns an iPhone say, (but not an iPhone 7 of course - at least, not if they've left their dongle at home), and comes across this as something of a cheap amp with some smarts. (I'm trying to be reasonable here as to what IK's target market is. It isn't me as an iPad musician and guitarist).
50 bucks is not a bad price. pretty reasonable actually.
I use a regular portable mini-stereo to practice sometimes, especially at work. It sounds good enough and loud enough to practice/jam around with. something like this: 25 - 30 bucks usually.
Right, it is made to be a very portable practice amp type of device (which also works without an iOS device), and it does work with the adapter included with every iPhone 7. If we released a digital interface model out of the gates, it certainly wouldn't be $50, either. We don't expect you'll record the next top-selling album with it, but you sure could write said album (as I date myself saying "album" but I don't think I will ever break that habit).
The regular iloud speaker also use the same type of connection, is that correct?
@ikmultimedia I think it's a nice piece of design that addresses the mess you can get when you want to hook up your guitar to a practice speaker, interface, and iPad. Particularly if you are plugging in the practice speaker to AC. This is why I generally use headphones.
I'm intrigued by it. I already have my iRig Pro. I don't need this for recording. This is something different and the price is right.
But it's kind of like your iRig Acoustic product. I'm waiting to see if you ever come out with a digital version.
I just had a thought, given this works with the Lightning to 3.5m jack adaptor has anyone tried the original irig with the adaptor into a lightning port?
Ummm. Not sure about that. But perhaps. Do you spin 78's still?![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
That is an interesting question. I don't have my griffin cable (same idea) at the moment but I'll have to retrieve it and get one of those adapters to try it. There is also the charging adapter, could also be interesting.
Yes, we have and it works. Also, the Apple Lightning Dock works for our digital interfaces that don't have outputs.
Cool, that definitely makes the wheels turn...I got a blueboard yesterday, which I am loving and can't wait to use on my gigs tomorrow and Sunday, and am looking at the irig hd2 and powerbridge eventually to replace my line6 sonic port, which is great but can't charge the iPad. Plus, with all the nouse issues I encounter in my home and various gig venues, I'm hoping that powerbridge supply really is clean.
While I have your attention @ikmultimedia, I'm loving the sound of amplitube, it's become my #1 since 2 weeks ago. Any chance were going to see more bass options and perhaps some subtle enhancements that would help with live work (although the blueboard has solved quite a few things). If there's anyone who would like my suggestions or input id love to give it, in fully committed to using my iPad as my amp rig at live gigs.
Sorry for the hijack. As I've said before, we'd love for you to visit this forum more often and get involved in other discussions, you bring a different perspective being a rep for one of the more "mainstream" companies and different perspectives make things better.
