Korg iWavestation on iPhone 4S and Akai Synthstation 25
I am really enjoying iWavestation on my iPad Pro, iPad mini 4 and iPhone 6S Plus. However, I have an old iPhone 4S and an Akai Synthstation 25 in my attic and I was wondering if anyone has tried installing iWavestation on the iPhone 4S and used it on Akai Synthstation 25. If so, does it work? I read that Apple stopped supporting the Synthstation 25 on iOS 9.

iWavestation works well on my 4s. I don't have a Synthstation to test with.
Wow I'm amazed it works on iPhone 4s
2 suggestions for using the synthstation
1 use midi bridge that still works with synthstation
2 use Midibridge and midmitr and then connect to your other devices by Bluetooth midi.
Good to hear IWavestation works well with iPhone 4S. Pity there is no one yet tried it on Synthstation 25. I might have to go into my attic and try it out myself. It's just the thought of having a small compact Wavestation keyboard that I can put in my bag just like with my Roland Boutique synths fills me with joy.
@Artmuzz you may check how well it works by comparing the same patch with high filter resonance on one of your modern devices with the 4s.
Sometimes apps scale down the processing if they detect there's not enough CPU juice.
In that case the 4s will reveal clear aliasing, which is (most likely) absent in the high powered devices.
Well I can confirm that the synthstation25 works fine with iwavestation via Midibridge magnifying glass recommended though.
I updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 9.3.5 and installed iWavestation. I then connected my iPhone 4S to my Akai Synthstation 25 via the 30pin port on the Synthstation and played some keys but nothing happened. I then opened NanoStudio and that kind of works with my Synthstation but there is some lag. Sunrizer XS also works with Synthstation but it looks like iWavestation doesn't work. While I was testing this, a couple of AAA batteries exploded in my Synthstation 25.
@BiancaNeve Did you connect the iPhone 4S into the 30pin port on the Synthstation 25 or did you connect it to the mini USB socket on the side of the Synthstation?
I used the 32pin port, and a mains charger.
BUT I also had MidiBridge running in the background.
Basically synthstation support was something that had to be added to apps back in 2011 and since Akai never produced a 64bit sdk most apps abandoned supporting it when they updated to 64bits.
Luckily midibridge is frozen in time and continues to work likewise sunrizer xs last update in 2014.
Fantastic
Good to see this working. Looks like I will be purchasing Midibridge.
I am a bit scared to try this with batteries to get full portability since I had a couple of batteries explode in my unit today when I was testing it with iWavestation.
Plus the synth station charges the iphone, which I had forgotten.
Oh and while It was dust free for a change I tested midimittr (again using Midibridge) worked fine, instanf(ish) Bluetooth keyboard.
iPhone 6 Plus, still use my Synthstation 25 via adapter cable and Midibrige.
Slight lag, but works great with many apps.
Wow it works on the 4s?
I have one but didn't even think of installing iW on it.
Cool.
I use iWavestation on my old iPad2 (has same SoC as iPhone 4s, the A5) in an AKAI Synthstation 49, and it´s awesome. It sounds really good, the amp in the AKAI gives it a certain vintage color, i love it. The GUI is not as fluid as on iPad Air 2, and sometimes very rarely the audio engine crashes into a crazy noice burst that has me ripping off my headphones xD Undocking the iPad for a second solves the issue. What´s interesting is, that the old 30-pin connector had actual analogue-line outs, so the whole thing is powered by the onboard DAC, which always had a good reputation.
What´s especially great is there´s zero latency, none.
That's good to know. I have a Synthstation 49 as well as the Synthstation 25 that I mentioned. I also have an old iPad 2 in the attic that I might dust off if the sound is good like what you say it is.
Just wondering if anyone has found a way to use the six buttons near the octave buttons apart from in the synthstation app.
Yea i´ve been pleasantly surprised! I also thought, that i wouldn´t need those two anymore, but it´s a total waste to have them in the attic. It´s not as crisp in the top end, but makes more than up for it with fatness and presence. Sounds great to my ears, curious what you think!
The ROMplers are as good as ever on the iPad 2, iWaveStation the latest and greatest example. But also the iM1 turns these two items into a sexy retro workstation, with a weird retro-futuristic feel to it. The great user interfaces of these classic KORG synths compared to the hardware, turn this into the best version of these synths that ever existed!
