Joy Ride with Dhalang MG driving Redshrike + Photophore + Shoom + Blocs Wave

Testing a new iOS video editing and effects app and hadn't played with one of my faves @Hypertonal 's Dhalang MG in awhile. Used it solely to make some partly designed generative patterns and using them to drive Redshrike (on sale at the moment) and Photophore (also on sale until end of year). Added some beat pattern with blocs wave, Shoom and tweaked/dirtied it up with zMors EQ. All in AUM and kept everything in check with Limiter.

Gracias decibelle! Trying to obsess a little less about buying shiny new iOS apps, and actually trying to make something with what I already have. lol :)

If it helps, your work gave me an idea about how to video-ise an audio project I'm developing.

Also, for more detailed admiration, I super extra bonus liked your use of ongoing minimal heartbeat-like rhythmic ostinato, occasional warped motorbike sounds, and dream-like window into your memories of the desert. Fabulous, truly.

Awesome! I mostly just do this sort of thing for my own pleasure, but if it happens to inspire a creative idea with a fellow artista, then that's some delicious icing on the cake! :)

Excuse me Mr Hunt, I am not an "artista", those people are the barrel-scrapings of some category or other, EYYYEEE on the other hand am one of the exclusive elite "artiste avec 'eurghh' " community.

Such mistakes can absolutely do a big bad thing maybe to somebody. So watch your letters in future, you recipient of a name-calling you.

    So there.

ps: Thanks for the video idea. It's not plagiarism. Or stealing.

  • Nice-sounding soundscape, for sure, but the best part of this was your not only using Photophore but mentioning that it is on sale. Bought it. Only $3.99! Yay, creative economy.

  • Omg can't believe I forgot to ask this but @skiphunt what's the name of the video fx app you used?

I used LumaFusion (not available yet, but launching in a few days) but most of the effects are available also in their fx-only app LumaFX

Lumafusion will have pretty much all of the FX of Lumafusion, but builtin to a full video editor. It also lets you stack videos on layers and blend them with fx. You can set all your animation up in keyframes and also control your audio levels on each track via keyframes. I'd wait on LumaFX and see how much they're gonna launch LumaFusion for.

Also used SloPro 1000fps (free) Lumafusion has video playback speed too, but SloPro has some cool ghosting and optical flow effects for the slomo that look cool

Used Fluid FX, but I don't think it's in the store anymore (very old) there's likely something else that does the liquid distorting though.

    Also used Luminancer

I think sadly, your very smart, witty, and biting humor is too complex for me to fully grok, ie. often goes over my head. Or, it may be a "Euro" thing that I don't always get. I've had similar miscommunications with other Euro-folk on this forum in the past. ;)

I bought Photophore during the last black friday + cyber monday/week sales. I'd had my eye on it for awhile because I read @RedSkyLullaby reference it when he/she was looking for a new keyboard. Watched the demo and fell in love with it. Snatched it immediately when it went on sale. One of my current favs. Glad to help steer others to it. :)

That could be, I've noticed before that what I think of as 'wind ups' or 'yanking your chain' is more of a Euro-thing, and in particular much more of an island-culture thing.

Could also be that I fail to fit my delivery to my audient. Just after I posted I had a 'oops' moment.

Oh well, either we all lose or it all turned out ok.

I vote for the latter. :)

Well, strangely... I like that compliment. ;) Thanks!

  • Like the track, really atmospheric, nice sounds and liking the minimal beat

  • @skiphunt , Oh yes I forgot, one of the things I enjoyed most about your creation was that if fulfilled my one of my most straightforwardly obvious but strangely rare criteria for art, which is that ...

    ... it tells a story.

I guess as a photographer you already knew that, which is probably why this work is so good.

    Kthxbye. :)

  • I like it, good track :)

I've only just got around to buying Dhalang. It's really great. So much you can do with it. Finding it a bit quirky and slow with audiocopy and wondering whether it's a bit buggy on iOS 9. But I'm definitely going to be using this one a lot. :)

Thanks RedSky! It's not entirely what I'd intended, but it was late and I had to call it done. RedShrike decided to un-load itself from AUM in the middle of a recording, ie. there were some parts playing that abruptly left. I chopped those parts off and called it done. ;)

Thank you :) Dhalang's got a couple quirks, but overall I find it rock solid. I haven't mastered shaping the synths it comes with yet. Sometimes I get lucky, but more often I've been using it's sophisticated and extremely varied methods of creating patterns.

Sadly, iOS 10 only, so I can't use it on my iPad yet but at least I can run it on my iPhone.

Many thanks for the heads up on this app, so far it looks amazing.

I picked that up last night.. says the video export is temporarily disabled. I asked him what resolution it'll be when he activates it. He said he's not certain, but definitely not 4K. Fingers crossed for 1080HD though. :)

Golly, I wonder what's up with video export, kinda integral functionality. I saw a donate button to fund further development, I wonder if he's struggling to work with different payment models?

Regardless, except for video export being disabled (hope that changes soon!), this app does part of what I was looking for, exactly as I hoped to find.

They went a little higher on the price than I thought they would, but at least they didn't go subscription. There's really nothing like it on iOS. AND, all of the FX from LumaFX are built-into the editor too. Handles 4k, and universal. Keyframing works very well... all-in-all I'd say it's the first pro-level video editing app on iOS.. though Pinnacle was pretty close.

Yeah, I almost didn't get it because of the lack of export.. but, he says it's coming... it's only $2... it's REALLY fun to play with... and like you said, it's Comrade Zolotov's work. "Insta-Buy" :)
