Multiple iPad's?

Who uses more than one iPad in their setup? I've maxed out my 64gb Air 1, and am considering purchasing another, which I can't really afford...

I may have to go through a pruning to free up some space for samples, but I am curious as to who uses >1, and how have you divided up your apps between them.

  • Ummm... I use 4. I keep (close to) mirror image of the same stuff on two iPad3 64gb, essential apps & effects on one iPad3 32gb, and just a two pages of essentials (like Samplr, Sector, Gadget) on the iPad2 16gb. It is impossible to manage. It takes a full day to make sure info from my main iPad gets shared to all the others through a series of delete & restore while hooked up to my PC. And some programs copy everything (Samplr) while others leave all your songs and data behind even when cloning (Patterning). It is so worth it mixing between linked apps, since I can kind of cue up the next thing or run one iPad through the effects of another.

  • Use three, an original iPad 1 running primarilt MidiBridge, as the main router/transmogrifier/promiscuity killer, iPad Pro 9.7 for audio heavy lifting, and iPhone 5 for Audiobus Remote, StompWatch, and some TB Midi Stuff for accelerometr -> CC mapping, connected to the Pro via BlueTooth LE.

  • I use 3 ipads, 4 total iOS devices.

One iPad for guitar, another for multiple synth apps, and another for Luminair to automate lighting. Also use an iPod touch 6 for Setlists/Midi Control.

Synth iPad is a mini 4 running Nave, Nanostudio, BS16, and Lemur for additional Midi control. Other ipads are mini 2s.

Guitar and Synth ipads running into an ICA4, and the others connected to midi using Bluetooth.

Keep in mind that an iPod touch 6 makes a nice inexpensive expansion device. I have run my Guitar rig (Tonestack) or several resource efficient synth apps from one before. Similar in power to my mini 2s.

  • I'd keep sound source and effects on different surfaces to avoid screen flipping.
No idea currently how to organize, for I use an Audient ID22 for analog sources and monitoring and could route up to 4 additional stereo busses via Adat.
Unfortunately my other interface (iConnect Audio 4+) has no optical channels, but connects nicely to the PC-world... or the other iPad.

  • Three iPads & one iPod touch.

  • Multiple iDevices here, too. The more the... costlier lower cost per GB merrier! (Well, it is Christmas time.)

    Gracias!

  • Very cool stuff @FlightManual. That's what I'm talking about!

  • Just getting into it. Had the iPad 5 32GB and recently purchased the 128GB 12.9 Pro. I like the Audiobus Remote capability. If they're both plugged into the USB hub (connected to the PC), Studiomux will see them with different names, so I can send synth output to Reaper from both at the same time and keep them separated. I seem to spend as much time learning about stuff as I do making music!

Anybody connected two iPads with crossover ethernet for Ableton link ?
Or even more with a switch ?
Obviously hardwire is better than WIFI in a venue.

  • ethernet? is there a hidden connector somewhere? The big player for this comes from iConnect. iConnectMidi4+ if MIDI is your main focus, iConnectAudio if analo=g , but botg do boyh.

CCK to hub, to Apple USB ethernet works fine, Ableton link works over ethernet, unless they have disabled that in ios, which is doubtful, WIFI is pretty much wireless ethernet.

  • Yeah i just have no idea about Ableton link, I assume it works, hopefully so :)
