Need to find time to do a synthjacker session with all of these great Oval sounds!

Hmmm. I avoided Synthjacker (and even reading about it) because of some -perhaps unfounded- certainty that it was out there in Boffinland. I would be grateful if you would you tell me in a sentence (or two) what it does well. And if it's easy :)

SJ automagically creates a sample library from any MIDI controllable sound source (complete with readable file names for sample mapping by host). Many days, I never think of oval in my AUv3 workflow--even though it has stellar sounds--because it is IAA only. With SJ, I would create a sample library of my favorite oval sounds to put into AudioLayer or even NS2 Slate/Obsidian.

Let us know how it goes.
I think Oval does not respond to external Midi, so I am not sure you could SynthJack it.

D'oh! The fly meets the ointment.... Looks like manual sampling is in order.

That's the thing with you Boffins, sending us simple men naked into the chamber.... :)

@JohnnyGoodyear : I agree this can create great samples, only found it because of this thread. Do you happen to know of a good aac to wav converter app I can use to turn Ovals aac clips into wavs? I can do it online or with apps that require a subscription, but I’d prefer a simple on iPad pay once converter app.cany suggestions gratefully received.

Audioshare is very clever at converting:

I tried Audioshare but it didn't work. But, Ausiostretch Lite allowed me to open the file easily and I could then export it as a WAV.

Can you post a picture of how the files that won't convert look in Audioshare?

What file extension are they showing?

  • You can record Oval as an IAA in AUM or AudioShare and just get .wav files.
    No need to convert.

  • @CracklePot : fair point well made. I really need to think more laterally sometimes! :)

  • Would have been nice if as a parting gift before they sank beneath the waves if they made this allow midi in so you could play it with something like an octapad... seems to use a proprietary Bluetooth handshake.

Drowning men aren't really in the gift business, are they?

Did you ever end up sampling this? I’m trying to think of the quickest way without it supporting midi in

Sadly, I gave up once I realized I couldn't auto-sample or Synth Jack it. On my to-do list for a rainy day.

I might just whack a bunch of notes into segments and chop it up there. The sounds are well up my street.

Same! They are good and worthy of sampling...
