i look forward to it
A monster gets even more marvelous.
Nice work!
I just submitted the bugfix update today — MIDI Out works great!
Also there were some issues with the pattern views not updating properly when you would make modifications (making it seem like it was impossible to delete patterns), and a few bugs with the arpeggiator mode that I took care of. Hopefully it will be reviewed and released quickly like last update, but it could be up to a few weeks before it hits the store.
In the coming updates feature-wise I am putting in a new compressor (with IAA/Audiobus sidechain), a VU meter (both courtesy of Oliver Greschke and Matt Davey of Elastic Drums fame), and I want to re-vamp the preset system.
At some point I'm going to release a free "trial" version of synthQ that will have all features unlocked, but white noise will be introduced after 10 minutes of use until you buy the full version with an IAP. The current version of SQ will still exist, as a "legacy" version.
I'm also planning on releasing more substantial preset packs (some IAP, some not), in the future. Ideally I'd like to have a system where users can share presets with each other and see what people have come up with based on tags, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself just yet.
Stay tuned!
Thanks!
I love this synth. I'm curious. Is there a chance of someday getting an AU version ? Also. Will the legacy version still get updates ? Cause I might rebuy the unlock on the free version if that's the case just so that I can run two instances
Both versions will be exactly the same, no worries
and thanks for your support! (Also that's a good idea about the two instances, I hadn't thought of that so I'll probably end up using it myself as well!)
EDIT: for the AU version, I'm definitely going to look into it soon, I just assumed that the IAA implementation would allow me to run as an AU as well on iPad (but it doesn't sadly).
If you're talking about an AU plugin that you can run on Mac, I have been thinking about an entirely new interface for pc/mac/phone/android, but I might have to get a bit more interest and possibly a kickstarter for that project...
The bugfix update which includes MIDI Out for the sequencer is now in the store
Awesome! Thanks!
I have just purchased this- and I must say that I am very happy so far. You know how sometimes you buy an app- open it up- play with it and get the feeling that you will never get on? Well this is kind of the opposite to that. I like EDM- this app seems to offer a rich diversity of useful and multi dimensional sounds which in conjunction with the sequencer should lend itself to some real creativity. The sound sculpting parameters don't seem to be overly complicated either- but yet sufficient to make radical and evolving changes to the sound (I still want to see the promised tutorial video though).
Very happy with this one- a real bargain at the price
@billjobs_in_space Love this app! Just had a quick play with the midi-out. Was trying to send midi out only and selected "midi-only" but I get nothing. My external synth plays only if I have midi-out selected and the proper channel set, but it plays the internal synthQ audio too. Is there a way to get the sequencer to only play an external synth and mute the internal synth?
Thank you!
Thanks for the positive feedback!
I just tried this and it looks like you've found a bug specific to the sequencer — you're supposed to be able to do what you are describing by enabling both midi-out and midi-only at the same time, as midi-only will shut off synthQ's audio engine and just send and receive MIDI signals. However, in the current version the sequencer needs the audio engine to be active in order for it's timing to work. I need to fix this soon, but a workaround for now would be to lower the master volume on synthQ's current preset. Sorry about that!
No worries. Work-around is fine. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't user error. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for the killer app!
Hey everyone,
I just posted the video tutorial for the sequencer. Check it out!
Thanks for this. The sequencer addition brings this app into my short list of favorites. All I want now is a dark theme. The colors are fine, but I'd love to see it without all that white everywhere else.
How is this synth on cpu? I'm looking for a nice lightweight synth to run on my old iPad 4 so I can use it with another couple of lightweight cpu apps at same time.
how do you activate the bundle if you already have 76?
Great- thanks for the video- it was an immense help to me. Please keep them coming- for the rest of the operations- I think you have made a top app here- showing people how to use it is such a help. I have given up on several apps in the past due to lack of instruction.
Cheers
Thanks a lot
a dark theme is planned, and we were working on something for this past update but ended up pushing it back.
iPad 4 was my main development machine for a while, actually. It depends on what you're running alongside it, but I was able to run synthQ plus elastic drums and maybe one or two more apps simultaneously. synthQ can get a little CPU heavy with some presets but it usually runs from the 12-45% range in terms of CPU. Use larger buffer sizes (for apps with the option) for better results.
I think if you go to the bundle in the App Store, it will give you the option to complete the bundle for a lower price since you already bought 76.
You're welcome
I'm planning on going through all the other modules and features in this format because I think that many users might not know absolutely everything that's under the hood for this app!
I think I have previously been guilty of underestimating this puppy so very much welcome all the education you can bring etc....
@billjobs_in_space This is absolutely boss! I know I'm late to the party here, but as if Synth-Q wasn't bread-and-butter enough with State Saving, this update has solidified Synth-Q's place on my top 5 synth apps. Cheers.
Ok purchased!
Thanks a lot, that's really great to hear!
Thanks for your support!
@billjobs_in_space I'm not much of a fiddler, but once you start to here good useable noises find their way. Very cool. One tiny small little thing I'd appreciate would be when saving over a patch (because, you know, more fiddling) it would be nice to be prompted to 'overwrite' if desired rather than simply 'sorry you'll have to rename this as something else because it already exists etc etc' I appreciate the heads-up, but I would also like to replace a lot of the time....no big deal, just a nice deal maybe. As mentioned, not much of a sound designer, but this gets my attention etc. Good stuff.
Love this app! It has one of the most impressive mobile UIs I've seen.
But the latest version is unusable for me because of this:
Does anybody else have the same problem?
PS. iPad 2, iOS 9
there's an option in the settings menu to show a prompt when saving over the current preset that you can turn on or off. Is this what you are talking about?
Oops, that's no good, looks like none of the non-retina images loaded for the iPad 2 version. I'll get a fix out for this ASAP, thanks for letting me know!
Thanks for the learning....
Update 1.513 is now live! Includes:
— Reworked LINK synchronization - when connected to a LINK session, the sequence will start at the correct beat of the timeline instead of just the closest beat
— Updated Audiobus to version 2.3.1 - synthQ now responds to the Audiobus global play/stop triggers
— Fixed a bug where randomizing a preset would switch off/on certain modules unnecessarily (osc, LFO, Filter, FM, Ring, modulation)
— Fixed a sequencer step not being deleted after deselecting all notes in note entry mode
— Added next/previous preset Audiobus triggers
— Changing sequencer patterns while in LINK mode doesn't override the LINK session tempo
— Fixed an issue where updating synthQ would not include new presets/groups
Thanks!
... way cool @billjobs_in_space !
Please, if assigning notes to the sequencer/arp could be implemented? Thanks!
Hi, I just updated to the newest release and the sequencer still doesn't appear to work as "midi-only". Did that bug not get fixed in this update, or am I doing something wrong?
