Sweet Dhalang MG Update!
What's with all the awesome updates to most of my favorite apps like Dhalang MG?!
It's like Christmas or something.
Significant update. This cat is really on the ball.

What's New in Version 2.2

@Hypertonal What is the IAA Midi input specifically? Seems I could already drive the synths from external IAA midi controllers. Not sure I understand.
Haven't figured out how the "drawing scale tone names on virtual keyboard" feature works yet.
Is there a way to delete one of the first analog synth patches I created and saved to the preset list?
Also, when I select monoAG in the piano roll section, it shuts me out of the app. Not a crash though. It wasn't doing that before.
this dev boggles the mind
Nice, have been really getting into this app. Anyone know if it's possible to send external midi from the piano roll?
Some words about this year's last update.
Nothing drastic, but the app now uses also the IAA midi port (selected from the hosting daw) in addition to core midi (selected from dhalang). Maybe most ios daws already use more the core midi ports, but at least this was how I got the keyboard on AUM to play dhalang that didn't previously work. Just a little more connectivity support.
Now possible to generate matrices from MIDI data by using only selected tracks in a MIDI file. Previously it didn't make sense to crawl the data also from drum tracks etc. Came up with some pretty crazy yet interesting stuff while testing importing all different midi tracks of 50's bebop midi files to different matrices and linking them together...
This was something trivial right from when the state machines were added. Now vector state machine can be linked (as a slave) to matrix machine and the states change in sync with both generator types. Also option in
the settings screen to have all state machine routes "rewind" back to first state when stopping the sequencers from main transport.
A popular request, now precise number typing for these two options, at least for starters.
A little more informative update to the analog synth knobs
In the settings screen there is new option in the UI section to toggle tone names (of the current tuning & scale)
drawn on the virtual keyboard (everything else but chinese kanji characters, as the keyboard got very laggy with those, I'll maybe add/fix this later)
Now when browsing a project file, the browser shows some information (artist name, title name, samplerate and picture) about the file before opening it.
You might wonder what's the deal with those song pictures ? At least for me some sort of visual reminder tells a lot more than some obscure names, of what the overall sound/feeling/drive in the file is.
Presets can only be overwritten/renamed into their slots. All presets are in a single file initially called factory.mem
that is generated with defaults if not found when the app starts. If there is another or more .mem files, the alphabetically first will be read when the app starts. Currently only way to access this (on iOS) is to use some desktop software like iExplorer to extract and import .mem preset files. For upcoming versions I am creating also a preset exchange functions to the file browser / dropbox interface.
Hmm, I could not re-create this issues. Maybe there are more details into it ?
Currently no, but this has been something under consideration and very easily added to the app. I have though this would steer a lot away from app's original function and orientation - to just play standard (and boring 12TET) midi with standard step/pianoroll sequencer... But after I have studied and implemented some of the new midi-replacing standards like OSC or MPE (seems very promising) that can handle polyphonic pitch bend in order to play various tuning systems with midi, I will add the piano roll midi output also.

Now go make some twisted holiday carols in φ-MOS, 23TET or in whatever system.

This is somewhat unrelated to this whole forum, but some time in the next year I am hopefully going to release a new (at least currently) desktop-only software for real-time video synthesis and analog-like CRT/VHS screen simulation, something much like the video synthesizer workstations of 70's and 80's like the Scanimate and Fairlight CVI. Now going in very working alpha version and beta testers / key users are soon needed. iOS version would be really nice to have also but this upcoming app/software needs quite a lot juice from the GPU and there is no real good external video output yet for the iOS/iPad.
nice work @Hypertonal thanks![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
do you plan to add Ableton Link?
Your new video app sounds very interesting too, look forward to that....
@Hypertonal
1: The monoAG behavior might not be a "bug" per se. I can easily reproduce it consistently. But, I think it might more be an unexpected reaction.
To recreate this, start Dhalang MG, go to piano roll. Make a few notes on the piano roll. Select monoAG. Hit play on the piano roll. The app shuts out back to main iPad home screen. It doesn't crash out.
What's going on is if you have neglected to select a target for your piano roll, instead of playing nothing, it kicks you out of the app to the home screen. If you select a target for you piano roll, it works as expected.
I think if you've neglected to specify your target, it should simply not play sound instead of kicking the user out to home screen. This is only with monoAG selected. If it's not selected and you haven't selected a target, the piano roll plays but without sound as expected.
2: The ability to slave the vector state machine to the matrix state machine sounds very cool! Is there a setting that need to be selected to activate this?
Lastly, that new real-time video synthesis app you're working on sounds right up my alley. Count me in as a very interested beta tester! I'm on Mac.
@Hypertonal I am a buyer but not yet a user but I wanted to just let you know that I appreciate your work on this app and I REALLY appreciate the expanded release notes posted here. Very cool.
Will these changes also be folded into the desktop version? Maybe i should consider getting the IOS version as well...
Ok now I see it, will fix for the next one.
Only toggle Matrix Link on the vector state machine to On
Just noticed the OSX desktop version just got the update too. Must've been a long lag between servers. Looks like the update description is about the same, except the photo add fix for projects... since that already worked fine in the desktop version.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
