DAW that can be MTC slave

Hi everyone,

First of all just anted to say what an amazing resource this is - seems like a very genuine bunch of contributors. I've learned a lot here in just a few days of reading.

Does anyone know of a DAW that will work as a midi slave. In my setup I have a lot of devices already synced and would love to sync an iPad DAW to my current setup.

If they don't - does anyone know of a workaround?

Many thanks

David

  • Auria can be slaved to MIDI Time Code. Last time I tried, maybe a year or two ago, it took about 2-3 seconds for Auria to lock on the MTC signal, but from then on it always was perfectly in sync. I works with wired MIDI connection as well as with wifi (same accuracy, surprisingly). Auria's MTC support is not that perfect, for example if you move the time indicator on your desktop DAW (Cubase in my case), the time indicator in Auria stays put. It only starts to move when you hit play (or record) on your desktop DAW. No jog-wheel, no ff/rew.

MTC was actually one of the reasons why I bought Auria and not Cubasis (as a PC Cubase user, Cubasis on iOS would have been the logical choice).

  • Hi Phil,

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I'll definitely give Auria a go - it looks as if it's the only option. I'll be trying to sync it to 2 2" tape machines which is synced to a pro tools system. I figure it should go okay..

    Thanks again,

    D

  • Maybe an option to use Miditimecode app which keeps and routes Mtc: http://www.dyslexiasoft.com/

  • interesting link, @Ocsprey. Didn't know that developer, thanks

So PT is the master, and the 2 tape machines and Auria would be the slaves? I think this should work.

For fun I'll see if I can slave it all to the ipad too!

  • that shouldn't be a problem.
