iWavestation Soundpack IAP

Hey, I bought iWavestation to make sure I got it before the launch sale is over. It's going to take me awhile to understand this one, and the soundpacks it comes with are fairly substantial.

Wondering if anyone knows for sure if the IAP for extra soundpacks is also a sale/launch price? Or, it that the regular price? I'll likely get the packs eventually, but I can put it off awhile until I recover from the last month's worth of unbridled spending, it'd be swell. ;)

And do the extra 7 packs expand the variety exponentially? Or, kind of more of the same?

  • No, it´s a great purchase, because there are a a lot of additional waveforms you can build your own patches from. Also the presets are great. Very interesting are the presets of the KLC card, because they mostly make use of the added resonant filter, a great example is preset 14 "Refloating Pad"

If I recall the packs went for $5 a piece normally, though I'm not 100% sure on that.

  • Thanks... I'm sure they're worth it, but I'm trying to spend what little I have left ONLY on apps that are currently on-sale. Would like to grab 1 or 2 Fab Filters for Auria Pro before the sale is over too. $5 looks like what I'd imagine the "normal" price to be. The Odyssei extra packs are $5 now too. Does anyone recall if that's what they were before the current sale?

I believe they were always 5 bucks. Won´t buy em until they fix the shortcomings of the app. I like the skins, especially the black / gold one Mk2 i believe.

  • I don't see any value whatsoever in the Odysse-ni! extra packs. They're a lot of money for what amounts to a skin and more presets, with no functional change or enhancement at all. I haven't bought them.

I don't have Odyssei, decided to get iWavestation instead. I was just using Odyssei to see if Korg's "regular" pricing for packs in general are $5.

So far, I can see the extra packs for iWavestation being worth it, since so far... the most interesting sounds I've got so far are by hitting the random button. I'm guessing by adding those extra packs I'll get even more varied random results.

That way, once I find something I like randomly, I can study the parameters used and sort of reverse engineer them to learn how to create my own. :)

  • Guys how many extra packs are there to purchase in iWavestation?

Just one. Worth it IMO. Since you can't import your own samples, there's no other way to expand the sounds you have to work with.

  • Cool thanks Wim!

  • With iWavestation I just built the pack into what I considered to be the price and swallowed it (unlike the Ody) as it actually does offer more. That was the case with iM1. I think there's a sharp distinction in some apps where I consider an iap of some form to be 'part of' the total price. In other apps, not.

Good assessment. I might go ahead and nab it. Thx!

  • So how would you folks describe the differences between iM-1's sounds and the sounds of iWavestation? I just bought the latter and the sounds remind me of iM-1.

I would encourage you to meet Mister Random if you haven't yet done so....

  • If I buy the sound pack for iWAVESTATION on an iPad, does it also show as purchased on my iPhone install?

  • Yes. You'll just need to do a "restore purchases" from the file menu.

There are some sounds that are similar between the two, but they're really different beasts. iWavestation has things going on with sequencing and morphing of waves that don't exist on IM1.

Unfortunately at the moment the random button only selects from base waveforms, not those from the expansion pack. Hopefully this will change in the future.

I think current iAP is the full price. They did the same with iM1 packs. So it might go down to 2,99 at some point.
Regardless, the iAP is worth its full price imo.

Wife bought me iWavestation for Christmas!!!! This is one awesome synth!!!
Already recorded City of Tomorrow patch into Blocs Wave amazing! Unlimmited loops with this one into Blocs Wave. She was so amazed hiw fast a song was coming to life by a single patch into Blocs Wav.

  • So how many of the original presets are included without purchasing the expansion pack? The marketing hype talks of 1500 but unclear how that breaks down

According to the manual, (without expansion pack)

" In total, there are 550 performances, 385 patches, 352 wave
sequences, and 484 waves on the 11 internal cards (internal
    memory)."

    (total with expansion pack)

"Including the contents that can be purchased
(CARD 1–6, KLC 1), there are a total of 1,050 performances,
735 patches, 672 wave sequences, and 780 waves that can be
    used."

  • Maybe this has been covered, but I haven't seen it.
Can any other apps emulate iW's random function? Nave is pretty versatile.

You have to think about what's being randomised.

Animoog has a randomise button which produces a random set of Animoog settings/timbres. But it's in no real way comparable to the random but in iWavestation because iWavestation has this concept of 'performances' and wave sequences that end up producing very interesting rhythmic sequences when you hit random.

  • I thought as much. It's pretty remarkable. But the sounds of the presets just don't appeal to me. Alas!

Me neither. Apart from a few of the KLC ones (some of which sound amazing).

    But I have:

    • Downloaded and imported some of my favourite from those out there on the web

    • Started programming my own from scratch

    • Made good use of the random function

If you like Keiv as a Gadget for creating very unique, textured sounds, but find it quite limited, then it's for you.

  • Are you saying @Matt_Fletcher_2000 that you can import external presets and/or samples?

No but you can import old wavestation presets online. Somebody posted a few links on this forum recently or a quick Google search will turn them up. Must use iTunes to import them.

Perfect description; will probably save my $ for the moment and enjoy your occasional SoundCloud posts.

  • It's nothing if not versatile, you can use it as an analogue emulation by choosing just a single raw waveform for the ocsillators, right through to complex soundscapes and rhythmic sounds. A sound designing playground!
