If you composed a promo tune for an app, what would it be like?

Imagine for a moment that one way forward is for people, prominent people, or perhaps those that don't stick out with quite so much girth, were to compose an actual proper song with almost nothing but one app. Imagine that were the accepted way. Imagine you were doing a song of your own devising, featuring one specific app. What would the app be, and what would the song be about / like / along the lines of?_ (Could be an existing song or cover, could be a new and novel thing)._

  • I went with Nanostudio and its all in one power.
Everything including the drums was synthesised with the Eden synth. The drums were resampled into a TRG.
I wanted to show that the old dog's not dead yet. There's an NSP for the track on the Nanostudio forum for anyone interested in looking inside.

  • Good wide stereo field on this iPad Pro.

  • Bebot / In the bastard-child style of Bob Fosse meets Damon Runyon.

I went to town with the modulations on this one.
Panning took a bit of a bashing ;)

@u0421793 first off, great topic. Second, I don't think we'll need to imagine for very long. This sort of thing has already begun and will only get bigger once the majority of everyone's computing is done on a mobile device. They're already doing this with Auxy and the sound packs, a new artist makes the demo tune and helps design the sounds. Noiz seems to be doing similar stuff as well, and they'll be releasing a more professional/versatile version of that I hear. Then on the other hand you have Figure, Roli, and everyone doing the social media collaborative music thing. So perhaps one day, the app really will become the new album. You buy the app to make the type of music you like, and to listen to your favorite artist who made the demo tracks or sounds or whatever. On the surface it sounds like "oh no mainstream noob music everywhere!" But that just belittles the idea of the app as an instrument in and of itself, which the talented folks will always ring the most out of. And who doesn't love more music?

Also, I imagine devs would get paid their due If this became a big paradigm.

  • For a one app song, I'd go with Gadget and all its internal IAPs (meaning not including external apps like iM1, Odyssei, etc, as the point of it being a one-app song is the usage of one app). With Gadget, I'd most likely make some sort of dance music whatnot.

Or conversely, the more I play with the app, the more I realise iDensity is king when it comes to more experimental music, and so I'd totally make a demo off of that.
