Forum file sizes [Fixed]

edited December 2016 in General App Discussion

@ Sebastian, Hi, I noticed @Littlewoodg posted a comment regarding uploading pictures to the forum posts. Yesterday I was going to post a question for Brambos regarding Phasemaker crashing, but I was unable to upload a picture to show my problem. The picture was a standard iOS screenshot, taken on my Air2, but the screenshot was too big to post. Something has changed regarding file sizes in posts, so is there an easy way to reduce screenshot file sizes ? If not then the limits on forum post attachments need opened up again.
Thanks

Edit by Sebastian: This has been fixed. You can now upload iPad screenshots without having to compress them.

I have always had this issue. I find if you go into edit the photo and just do a slight tweak of any parameter, even imperceptible, it resaves it as a compressed jpg and can then upload.

Yeah same here. It's a pain, but it works ok. A slight trim is all it takes mostly.

  • @Sebastian It's odd because I loaded full sized screen shots just two days ago...

  • @Audiogus, I'll try that, but I've never had this problem before when uploading screenshots

  • I've had this problem for months now.

  • Hmm, I'll talk about this with Mike. Relatively uncompressed screenshots from retina ipads can be quite massive.

  • I spent most of a day several weeks ago trying to post a link to a screenshot I'd taken, that I'd put on my WD My Clown, and also my Seagate Personal Clown, and couldn't figure out an easy enough way of doing it from either, so I gave up in the end.

  • Thanks @Sebastian.
@Audiogus, I edited 1 or 2 pixels off the edge of the screenshot, saved it and up it went onto the Phasemaker: Going Universal thread. Thanks

I use Photogene 4.x to resize images in an exact dimension or an filesize litimation...

There you have control over the exact size and KB size... very exact...

Around $3 just now in the Appstore...

  • Yes bigger filesizes would be nice
Or just compress the uploaded file?

  • What's struck me was that I was unable to do something this morning (upload a screenshot from iPad to a forum post) that I had done 48 hours before.

  • On this https://open.vanillaforums.com/discussion/31877/can-you-set-a-max-width-height-for-images-uploaded-with-the-editor page at the end, past the several idiots who can't understand requirements, there's a php class that may be of interest.

@Michael has won the fight against the php configuration file and upload size has been increased slightly. You should not have any problems with uploading screenshots anymore.

  • Good outcome. Thanks guys

  • Does anyone know if it is possible to set up imgur (or a similar photo-dump-and-share site) as a "Share" destination on iOS? I know there are apps for it but I'm wondering about a way to do it directly from Photos. Something like: you hit Share, select imgur (or whatever) and get an alert box with the URL to copy and paste?

  • I dunno about imgur, but DropShare does that - with a self-hosted service (S3 etc)

  • Cool. :)
It was such a drag to edit the screenshots or use whatever image sharing service.
