What type of video content is needed/wanted for 2017

Hey guys, some might know that I have a small youtube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/c/theaudiodabbler

I am just thinking ahead for 2017 and was wanting some input. I am just wondering if there were any video needs that I can focus on in 2017. I want to do more videos and I have finally got a setup to where I can do more easily.

What types of videos would be useful and/or entertaining? Tutorials, sound creation, app reviews, performances, production as in how to use your iPad to actually produce something usable, incorporating an iPad into your current DAW.

I guess a poll would be the best options and maybe I will do one later but feel free to leave comments below with other suggestions and ideas and thoughts.

A few topics I have in my head are,

  • since most of us who have purchased any Korg App or another Link enabled app, have a copy of Ableton Live Lite, I thought about doing a series of Ableton live lite tutorials. There are plenty of Ableton tutorials but none seem to focus on what you can actually do with the lite version.

  • I want to walk through creating a sound pack from scratch, I want to do it myself and I figured I would bring you guys along with my journey.

  • A roll the dice type game, where I roll some dice to pick a key, tempo, mode, etc. and see whatI can do with that. could be something similar to Against the Clock.

Thanks for your input and thanks for being such an awesome community.

  • Interesting stuff. I can imagine there are two avenues here; things that interest you which you then share with anyone else who might also be interested or things for folks who know less than you (probably a larger constituency).

I was thinking of the latter over the last few days having bought 1. A Circuit 2. A Midi Interface 3. An Arturia keyboard, but not really having a clue how to hook them up to each other/make them work, nor immediately finding anything on the net suitable for a moron beginner to REALLY CLEARLY explain the needed steps. So far, not so unusual, but I have also spent the last few days struggling to get on the Novation/Focusrite sites because -as they address by way of a landing page mea culpa- millions of other moron beginners have also just got stuff for Christmas.

Herein, I was thinking, resides opportunity...

Good idea. When I tried Live Lite after getting one or the other LaunchPads it appeared that the tutorials were all geared towards the full version and made it seem like I could do absolutely nothing with Lite.

    Yep. Good idea.

I spent about 20 mins with Lite. Pasting an audio loop in seemed to mess with the tempo stretch of it and I got fraustrated.

    Never went back.

  • Bite sized videos (1-2 mins, max) that show off one or more 'set apart' features of apps you love.

  • Roll the dice sounds like fun. :)

  • How about a video showing how to make videos simply?

I have tried a few times and gave up. If you have any tips that would be great.

    Like it.

  • @Jocphone @JohnnyGoodyear Funny you say that, I was just thinking to myself this morning that I want to do a video on how to record iPad videos. I have a few tips and tricks that I have discovered over the past 2 years so that video is in the works. Hopefully before the year is out.

Excellent. Also good game theory there Colonel. The easier folks feel it is to roll-their-own the more they're likely to share etc....

  • Does anyone have the Apple lightning to VGA dongular appendage? What's the highest max res you can get out of it (eg on an iPad Pro)? It's not the retina resolution is it?

  • @u0421793 What would you use that dongle for? I guess you could record VGA input? I just did a little research on the resolution and it seems that VGA really doesn't have a limit as far as max res. It would just replicate whatever is input to it. So with the iPad pro 12, 2732 x 2048 could be the output. I know you can buy VGA capture cards that do 1080p.

I would say unless you already have 1 or the other or could get them on the super cheap, it would be easier and cheaper to just get a 1080p webcam like the Logitech 920 or something. That way it frees up the lightning cable for other things. I know that is what I was running into when I would try and use the Lightning cable to record my iPad screen with Quicktime. No where to plug in my midi controller and I am still not sold on bluetooth.

  • Just want to say I love your videos. Are you on Twitter?

    @johnfromberkeley sometimes. https://twitter.com/gmslayton

And thanks for those kind words. I feel like a crazy person when I am recording. I guess you are your own worst critic.

  • Love your videos and always learn a lot. I would love to see you pick up the Sound Test Room mantel and do intro videos of new apps.

  • Great idea! Since I had similar idea related to my own material (and in spanish language more than english) I will appreciate any hint or trick. Also if you need something, please ask for!
My best wishes with this and new year!

Excellent, if you can keep those smelly, oafish computer things out of the process; even better!

    gets my vote B)

@Jocphone I will try to show what can be done without a "smelly, oafish computer." That had me rolling.

I try to live by the motto, use what you have until you cannot achieve what you are after. So without spending any money or spending the least amount of money, accomplish what you can, then figure out where you need to spend your money.

If you are good with the tools you have and can be productive, then that hands down beats someone with all the latest gear and gadgets that can't find their way out of a wet paper sack.

  • videos that illustrate how to reduce the friction between ios apps like recent the samplr, blocs, Aum one. Feel like I knew all those apps well, but that opened up a new world. B)

  • @bounce yea Samplr and Blocs are similar but different beasts and AUM allows them to work together and play off of each others strengths.

  • Maybe not tutorials per se, but "sonic recipes". Like sending out midi from Fugue Machine to iWavestation and then messing with the note ranges. Or better yet, weird combinations of apps that lead to interesting results and fun workflows. The weirder the better

  • @db909 I can definitely do weird.
