I'm guessing a form letter omitting mention of how Apple built that annoying pop up in on purpose to manipulate their customers (us) into nagging devs to update their apps.

It's just blah blah about none 64 bit code.
It doesn't slow the iPad down or something.
    Forget it.
    But nice twist @BiancaNeve ^^

  • I know what it is. I'm just curious really to see how Apple will respond since they own the developer.

Me too! Thanks for bothering, I hope you will post the reply here, along with how long Apple took to respond?

I get that on many MANY apps any more.

    Alchemy....................just amazing.

It is the only app I remember the day I bought it and was like wow...........this iPad music thing is something special.

Alchemy is an amazing app. Just wish it wasn't abandoned.

It means extra memory is being consumed by forcing iOS to load the 32 bit subsystem. http://www.idownloadblog.com/2016/07/07/ios-10-tidbit-64-bit-apps-warning-message/

Awesome that you emailed the developer :)

  • I get it on lots of apps too, but not all of them are developed by developers Apple owns......

    Nice slice of irony :)
Of course the folks in Mumbai (or wherever support is outsourced too) won't realize it's their own co.'s soft. But you will get a sentence that goes something like this: "I understand your concern upon seeing a pop up advising you..."

  • But hopefully it will go on to say something to the effect that all responsible developers should take steps to keep their apps up to date ....

    Hilarious.

I haven't noticed any trouble with setups of apps that show the message.
So it can't take a s..load of ram to run them.
Im running stuff on a a7 since forever,
Nothing changed, just the nag screen is new.
Why show the nag screen for perfectly working apps?

This is just apple nagging the developers through the users.
A really strange tactic. WTF apple?
    Why are we molested?

I definitely noticed a difference when loading the student app for my University...I've since deleted it and use the web version instead.

  • Hm, than that app isn't done very clever in the first place I guess.

  • I've had a large amount of these messages show. I think it's probably more aimed at games, as many devs in the games arena are fly by nites. They make an app hoping will make it big and then dump it if it doesn't and try something else.

The App Store is a quagmire of old broken apps. I know the music making market is way smaller, but we do seem to have devs that are more passionate about their products.

I suppose logistically, Apple didn't have much choice than to have to use something like a last updated stamp. If they were to actually test all the apps on the store, they would still be doing it when iOS 11 comes out and then probably have to start again. I would however question the validity of their approach. Will it have any effect on the worst developers, the ones that probably couldn't care less if their app still works properly as long as income outweighs any costs of keeping the app live.

I understand that you have some feedback about the App “Alchemy” — that it’s making your iPad Pro slower. As a customer myself, I recognize your need for support, so I looked into your account and posted my findings below.

After reviewing your account, I see that it’s been a while since you downloaded “Alchemy” (2011). With all the iOS updates since 2011, it’s possible that the performance of the App you downloaded years ago can keep up — hence, the slow operation.

After further investigation, I found that this App is no longer available on the App Store. This App may have been removed by Apple or the developer for many reasons. You can contact the developer directly via email or their website to ask why they’re no longer offering this App through the App Store. Here’s the support URL on file:

If you’d like to provide feedback about your experience with this App, I encourage you to do so at this page:

Apple takes customer feedback seriously. While using this page will not elicit a direct response, I can assure you that all entries are individually reviewed and reported to Apple management. Several adjustments to our services have been made based on comments which have come directly from our customers. The more feedback we gather, the better and more likely it will be to incite changes. I thank you in advance for sharing your feedback. It is highly appreciated.

When I launch Alchemy on my iPad Pro I get a message to the effect that Alchemy may be slowing down my iPad and that the developer needs to update it to improve compatability

Well Apple are the developer (having acquired Camel the original developer) so what are you going to do to improve compatability?

    Thanks

So..... We should all get on the horn, and bombard them with emails? Would this actually work? If apple still thinks the app is owned by Camel, then I'm guessing no amount of contacting them will change anything.

  • If you all push too hard, I can see Apple just taking the app off downloads totally and giving us the big finger lol :p

@BiancaNeve It's funny how their response took a left turn in the very first sentence, that it was you saying the app was slowing down your Pro, this after your Additional Comments lay it out so clearly...I guess Apple is the same as most of us, the only part of the email they actually read is the subject line.

I like that rather than catching the irony, Support compounded it. More emails are indicated, at least from this user in need of support:

    Hi
When opening the app Alchemy, a pop up appears, advising that the app may slow down my iPad, and that the developer needs to update the app for compatibility with latest iOS. The interesting issue here is that the developer is in effect Apple itself, which acquired Camel Audio some time ago, and now includes an iteration of Alchemy in its Logic software. The pop up seems designed to prompt me, the user, to reach out to the folks responsible for the software and request an update. And so I am. Please advise.
    Best,
    Your loyal customer

  • @BiancaNeve thank you for the links. I submitted a request to update or submit a new replacement app via the link since Apple purchased Camel Audio and failed to adequately support Alchemy Mobile they're responsible for degrading my iOS experience.

Heehee you do irony better than me. Hope you get a more helpful response :)

I have sent them a follow up e-mail, but I like your wording better.

  • Playing with Alchemy tonight on an Air 2 and it's definitely choking on two tracks using Bigtone presets. Looks like our days of Alchemy may be coming to an end. :(

@BiancaNeve Thank you for the updates. My translation of Apple's response:

"We value you to the amount of minus zero, corpo-speak corpo-speak, trash your words impose our fantasy world on you, oh lookit see? Our responsibility is really all about you and a non-us developer! So corpo-speak corpo-speak, usual strategy impose our fantasy, ignore everything you say, abdicate all responsibility until expensively forced otherwise, and spew endless reams of useless responsibility-abdicating patronising unresponsive unhelpful time-wasting corporate-speak. Wait, what was the question again? Oh right, we don't care. You may intercourse off now kthxbye."

Yeah, ok Apple, all fixed now.

@Littlewoodg I like your wording too. Maybe Apple won't spew their usual fantasy all over it? Yeah, maybe.

  • The irony of all this, is that the only thing slowing me down is having to close pop-up boxes telling me the app I'm trying to open will slow my iPad down.

    Idiots.

  • I notice that FLUX:FX has the same pop up

The devs haven't touched this app in quite some time. That's one of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on it.

Yeah. They've been quite active otherwise though and have spoken directly with me before now, even shared a video I made and made some alterations in the manual based on posts I made here!

For this reason I have high hopes to see an update. It is a truely great app and just needs a bit of up to date polish as well as a more in depth MIDI integration and probably LINK for good measure (although it actually works fine with MIDI sync).

I've had it in the same 'box' as Samplr regarding its usefulness and update necessity (it does still work fine). However.. now that it's got this message it could definitely use that update sooner rather than later.
