App recommendation: Effectrix vs Egoist vs Sector?
All the above apps are on sale, and I'm on the market for an app that will let me import a audio file (say about 4 bars or so in length), glitch it up, and then easily export the loop again for e.g. pasting into garageband.
I'm thinking especially of vocal or melodic loops rather than drums - any recommendations??

If you want control, Egoist, easily.
If you want glorious mayhem and glitch, Sector, surely.
Different beasts.
Effectrix takes an audio input stream and modifies it by applying multiple effects to the stream.
Egoist and Sectors are slicers. They take audio and chop it into slices and then you can apply effects, envelopes, pitch modulation, etc. to each slice.
The output of these tools is quite different. Because Effectrix is mangling an intact audio stream, the original audio source material is audible in the final results. You can control the extent to which this happens with an overall mix control. Because Egoist and Sector are slicers, what you get out usually sounds nothing like what you put in.

Thanks guys; I think from what you're saying Egoist might be the one - I aim to have my work flow be:
1) export loops from gadget, blocwaves etc
2) easily import and mangle them (the randomise feature in Egoist looks good for this), and
3) export loop to garageband or cubasis for arrangement.
I'll wait to see if there's more opinions but I think I'm sold, cheers!
The trick with sector is to use warp subtlety and not glitch it out like crazy
(of course you don't hear the original in the background)
BTW sector doesn't use live audio as has been said here, you can seq every step as you please and not much of the original is left
Someone is mixed up
Sector is a slicer With an alien interface, it needs a little time to understand it
Sector is very nice for vocals
Here are some vocals in sector through iVCS3 as fx
If you are into weird and beautiful sector and iVCS3 are an unbeatable couple
Let's listen to what weird uncle William has to say about this
Guilty.
It's been a while since I used Sector. My original post is corrected to help head off any future confusion.
i shyed away from effectrix because it hasnt been updated in almost 3 years. does it hold up? does all the older sugarbytes stuff hold up?
Sugar bytes are on the same quality level as FabFilter.. and are also available outside of Auria! They were all updated pretty recently with Link.
wasn't it updated recently to add LINK support?
It was updated with Link support in October of this year and works well.
I would say go for Sector first- it's easy to use- has a great manual- and has more randomness control than the other two- I have all three- and only ever use Sector out of them. The other Sugarbytes effects are well worth your attention though![:* :*](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/kiss.png)
I dunno about all of these Sector votes. It's one of my favorite apps and I'm quite sure you'll love it when you buy it. I've had good fun messing with vocals in Sector. It can help conjure amazing things!
But.
If working with vocal passages is your primary aim, you need to be aware that Sector uses fixed same length slices. You can set the number of slices but you can't adjust a particular slice to make sure it grabs that one vocal phrase that starts a little before the beat. Nor can you have one slice the length of 'my' and another slice the length of 'adidas'. With egoist, you can move any slice point to any position you like and each slice's duration is entirely independent.
Again, you're going to eventually buy Sector and, judging by your post, love it to death. I just don't think it's the best tool for the job you described and if you only have the bucks for one or the other today, Egoist will do more of what you described.
Once you pick up Sector, you can use Egoist to line up all of your vocal snippets onto downbeats, export the wav and open it in Sector for stochastic jubilation.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Have a look at Strom as well for vocal mangling prior to slicing.
Damn this thread is making me want to buy Egoist. Oh shit it's on sale..!!
Is Egoist any good with an MPC style MIDI pad controller?
I've been wanting to get hold of a sampling based app for use with my MPD32, just for a little light 'everything in he box' fun.
Really sound reasoning here...
If one is on the iOS platform and chopping / beat chopping / manipulation is of interest then Egoist is a Must Have.
It's a single app that wins on so many different levels.
Egoist. Have the others, love them. But Egoist.
[For the record Have the others, love them. was meant as an instruction, but is also entirely true as a statement.]
Many a time I've thought about getting Egoist, I have Thesys
I don't know.......could be an opportunity to learn something new and challenging
you guys sold me on egoist. thanks!
does egoist have link ?
What, you mean like "Wet Paint"?
Polish sausage.
AUM + IAA Sync
The dead horse is looking rather beaten, but:
Egoist is prolly best for putting together the makings of an entire song (plus you can do some chopping upping of vocals or beats or whatever in isolation). And I love me the randomization feature- being super duper lazy and/or drunk need not be an impediment to song creation, just roll them virtual dice! Vegas, baby!
Sector is like a top-of-line food processor with all the extra accessories thrown in. You can chop up anything any which way. Perfect for what it does.
Effectrix is like that Christmas gift you got that you were really excited about when you got it cause it looked cool, but you took it out of the box, messed with it a little, put it up for another day, and now it's like three years down the line and you still ain't taken it back out of the box.
