Help me pick two: iM1, Gadget, or Geoshred?

I bought iWAVESTATION, Korg Module with IAPs, SampleWiz, and some other apps this month. I have enough of a balance in my iTunes account to buy two more apps. I'm interested in the Korg iM1 (although I already have the software version on my Mac) Korg Gadget (because it seems like a good deal at 50% off) or Geoshred (because it looks so cool, even though I'm worried about having to learn how to play it since I'm a keyboard player).

Gadget looks intriguing, even though I can use GarageBand as my recording program. IM1 would complement my iWAVESTATION and would work with Gadget. Geoshred looks like it would be awesome if I could learn it. Can someone help me with my decision?

Gadget and Shred. The first just because you have to and the second because it's unlike other things, but then you liked iWAVE (as I do also) so you'd probably like iM1 (as I do also). So, in other words, the only person who can decide is you; having established that they are all of the front rank more or less, a selection depends on taste and on that matter no one can really advise another. Buy two. Pine for the other and when the pennies collect up again buy the other. Gadget and Shred.

  • The trick is to balance the pining phase with the acquisition phase....haven't perfected it yet

  • Johnny,

Are you saying that I have to get Gadget because it's fundamental to creating music on the iPad (kind of like Audiobus)? I purchased iWAVESTATION over iM1 because wavestation had the 'random' function, which seemed like a cool feature that I don't have in the software version. I'm not sure of the iM1 has anything that is an upgrade over the software version except for the control pads, but on the other hand, it's such a classic that it's hard to not consider it.

I would pick Gadget as the first choice because it's on sale @ half off and you also get all the included modules that come with the app. Geoshred is not currently on sale so you might wait for a price drop. iM1 second because it's also on sale and you a ton of sounds as you already know that you can also get as the Darwin gadget.

Gadget, because it is an environment, not solely an instrument, and because so many folks with so many different approaches/tastes within iOS seem to think very highly of it (self included). AND you can play iWAVE and iM1 things in it also....

  • Buy Gadget
and buy the IAP Madrid Gadget (it sounds so good)

  • I just purchased Gadget based on everyone's suggestions. Wow! I can't believe that I was considering other options. The sounds are awesome.

Jeff - Yes, I have my eye on Madrid, and also Gladstone. I will likely wait for a sale and get both.

I'm still wavering on getting Geoshred. I'm looking at Geo synthesizer instead, but I'm not sure about how my keyboard skills will transfer to either of them.

I appreciate the advice that everyone gave me.

  • Buy everything from korg that integrates into gadget. thats pretty much my korg philosophy.
heck. i own all of the gadgets. ALL of them. i consider IM1,etc just more gadget IAP.

I think everything from Korg currently is on sale, 50%, so you're unlikely to see the price any lower than it already is. That said, the sales do happen at least two times a year, all summer and Black Friday through Christmas and New Years.

  • I recently got Gadget and picked up Madrid, Gladstone, Bilbao and Abu Dhabi - all great additions to this fun music making tool.

For me Gadget without Darwin/iM1 feels 'empty' :)

Needless to say I have all the Gadget IAPs and apps that integrate as 'Gadgets', still missing a few IAPs in Module though. If I was to start 'all over' I would go full on Korg/Gadget with IAPs and Cubasis...

  • Gadget. No brainer.

Geo Syntheriser is really good IMO. Try getting it to play midi notes and a midi cc across 4 channels into Gadget. And then have 4 duplicate gadgets on midi channels 1 to 4.

This creates a way of playing per note pitch bend and modulation (a bit like you can get in Animoog with its internal keyboard).

Advanced stuff. But that's how I pair Geo Synthersiser with Gadget.

I love the way Madrid sounds from what I've heard on YouTube videos, but I'm not sure if I have any particular interest in working with base pluck sounds. Can this aspect of the sound be tweaked away? Would there then be any point in getting the app?

  • The saga continues...I just purchased iM1 and it's amazing! Even though I already have a software version, this new version just feels different and easier to edit. Plus I love the pads and the ability to import and export to the M1 software. Thanks for everyone's responses. I was going to wait on the Madrid and Gladstone purchases. I'm assuming that 9.99 is their regular price and A they are not on sale like the others?

I decided I did want to spring for one of the Rudess Apps before ending my addiction to iTunes cards. Is there a significant difference in the interface design that would help me get one over the other? I'm a keyboard player and don't know how to play guitar.

Both are 33% off, and Bilbao 50%, another Gadget must have ;)

The note values are on the keyboard interface in GeoShred and you can use settings to change the keyboard to whatever layout you want. There are piano modes and guitar modes.

Amen. Best workflow of any app out there.

  • Man now im stuck between Pro-L and Geoshred... bummer how Geo went To $25 before Dec 31st i might just skip it and get Fab Pro-L

  • Thanks everyone. Looks like I will pick up the Korg Gadgets before the sale ends on the 5th. I'll hold off on Geoshred, weather looks like it's going up to full price on February 1.

  • I ended up getting Fabfilter Pro-L and will wait for Geoshred for another day... Instead, bought Synthcaster for .99 cents to learn how play Geoshred first.. Not bad and it controls other synths too!
