Using a sound card with multiple stereo outputs

edited August 2013 in General App Discussion

Hi,

I'm trying to find out if I can run different apps through different audio outputs when using a sound card that comes with them.

For example: If I have an audio card that has 4 line outs, I want to have the audio from BeatMaker 2 going to outputs 1 and 2, and then the audio from Loopy HD going to outputs 3 and 4.

Is this possible?

Also, I'm using a 4th gen Ipad

  • Theoretically but not currently. I don't know of any apps other than auria that allow you to address outputs explicitly.

Oh, wait. You may be able to use auria via audiobus to do this. Putting loopy and beatmaker as inputs and auria as outputs, it might be possible via the output matrix to send those channels through to your sound card discreetly. Never tried, wild bullshit Internet speculation right there.

  • Damn this could be a deal breaker.... For some reason I just assumed this could be done with iOS6. Your idea for using auria makes sense and I feel like it would totally work, but in a live situation I think I'd be stressing too much using multiple outputs in such an unconventional way.

  • Perhaps ios7 will save us. ;)

  • Auria is sending to all three output pairs anyway, as far as I can tell. It will also additionally send to the headphone jack if you plug something into it. I have iPad 3 and this is likely OK, though I will test tonight, unless you already have/will get Auria and test yourself.

(I'm using Focusrite hardware - 2i2, 18i6, and 18i20, YMMV on other units)

  • AD 480 pro can do this. There you can select to which audio you want to route it's output signal(s).

  • Resurrecting another old thread that didn't get a clear confirmation previously...

Can AB3 output directly to an external interface's outputs? e.g. Set 1 instrument to output on 1/2 and another to 3/4 on a iConnectAUDIO4+?

Or does Cubasis allow this? The AB3 outputs could route to Cubasis channels and be routed from there to the interface's outputs presumably.
