Ambient Synth Jam, "Year's End"
This is my first recorded song using the iPad as an instrument. It was mainly influenced by the score to Ex Machina and Berling School style electronic music.
I used four Fugue Machine sequences to trigger four distinct synths in Korg Gadget. Each synth received all four of the Fugue Machine sequences, so they were all playing the same thing. This helped create a larger sound with many colors that I could fade in and out at will.
I "played" the song by triggering the different sequences in Fugue Machine, adjusting the mixer levels in Gadget, and tinkering with the synth parameters live. The audio was directly recorded into Ableton Live and further processed with some audio effects.
All-in-all, it was a fun experiment. I learned a lot and will definitely make this type of music again in the future.

@Halftone The plucky sound you hear the very beginning is Chiang Mai using a slightly modified version of the 01: Signs preset. I coupled that sound with Phoenix using the 03: NewWave Brass preset and Helsinki. Both Phoenix and Helsinki were turned down in the mix. Chian Mai served as the basis of the chord sound. Pheonix filled in the low end and Helsinki filled in the high end.
The lead/arp sound that takes over in the middle of the track is Chicago. I killed the filter envelope modulation. When acting as a lead, the glide is turned way up (about 75%). The glide is very low when the arpeggiator is turned on. I manually opened and closed the filter while recording.
Very nice track. I hope Korg will allow outputs per channel in the futur, it will make the processing even more fun
Cool stuff. I use both Gadget and Fugue Machine often, but have never thought to use them together. I'll have to give that combo a spin. Thanks for the inspiration @purplehands

Very inspiring track. Dynamics are quite extreme. But it's a very interesting use of Gadget.

That was very gorgeous to listen and relax to. I just purchased Fugue machine, so I'll be checking Jakob's vid on how to get it all set up and create my own ambient jam.
Maybe I'll make two jams using the same instruments, just different bpms, so I can have an A and B section. Best way to end the year in my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed that. My only complaint is the meowing synth always came in too loud (the one at 3:20-ish and 4:40-ish). Very good listen, though.

No problem. Unfortunately, lol, I didn't start on a track. because I got caught up programming some code in the MiSoft "Basic!" to choose my parameters in Fugue Machine for me, lol. Kinda be more sporadic and stochastic.
I'm kind of in the same boat. I love finding elements in my music making that bring together spontaneity and musicality. For example, on this track I had a LP filter being modulated at 0.04Hz. However, the filter was at the end of my master effects chain in Ableton. So while recording, I was forced to make musical decisions based in the slow movements of the filter. I essentially had to "perform" with the LFO as if it was another person in the room.
I enjoyed this track...very nice.
