General Midi SoundFont

In case anyone needs a a good sounding free GM SoundFont I now have an updated version available here
https://sites.google.com/site/soundfonts4u/
All sounds are creative commons licensed and is primarily based on the free SGMv2.01 SoundFont from Shan (http://www.geocities.jp/shansoundfont/) but I've added a high quality pianos (modified Salamanders) and acoustic guitars to really make it shine. Its 480 mb so best with iPhone 6s/ iPad Air 2 but probably OK with some lower spec devices.
Here is an audio sample playing a midi file on my iPhone 6s

Cheers.

This is my default GM soundfont for BS-16i. Thank you for the update.

  • I'll definitely download this since SGMv2.01 is currently my favorite GM SF by some margin. (I wish I could trick Infinite Looper into using SGMv2.01 as its internal bank instead of the Christian Collins font!)

Dunno if @SecretBaseDesign has any plans in that direction, but doesn't hurt to ask right?

I hear ya, I hear ya!

2.0 is waiting for review now, but having an alternate SoundFont is something that I'll try to get in to 2.1....

  • @SecretBaseDesign I know it's a can of worms to allow users to load in their own GM SF since if it's not properly structured it'll mess up the function of the app. Also the Christian Collins font is slimmer in size. But yeah, if user-loaded fonts are too problematic, if you were able to just add one alternate 'high calorie' built-in choice to IL I'd definitely stump for SGMv2.01!

  • Just downloaded and loaded it into Gestrument and immediately noticed a higher sound quality. App crashes sometimes on the air2 but its working. Thanks.

  • If you are running apps that use a lot of Ram you should probably stick to the first version of the SGMv2.01 from my site that weighs in at 262mb rather than the third version that is 480mb (due to detailed 6 layer piano). If I'm using one of the big performance soundfonts (Nice-Keys-xx say with bs-16i) with a midi file backing from a second app I will load the smaller one but if I am playing from say just a piano or guitar soundfont I will use the third big SGM soundfont to have the nice pianos as backing. I would think iPad Pro/iPhone 7 should be able to handle both large ones at the same time but I don't have the luxury of being able to test this.
