Suggestion for Sensual Saxophone

Hey! Loving this app - using it via MIDI from my main DAW and it's super playable. The only slight problem I'm having is that using the modwheel increases not only the vibrato and sensuality (which is fine) but also the reverb amount. It'd make more sense for the reverb to be its own thing, separate from the SEX knob, and that control would basically just add vibrato and engage the more expressive/sensuality mode. Or at least have an option to lock the reverb amount :)

Anyone else feeling this?

  • Yeah that would be great!

  • You've got individual controls for everything in the advanced menu-- the "sexiness" is all about reverb+delay+vibrato.

I'm asking our fearless programmers if it's possible to add some MIDI CC assignment functionality for an update!

  • I agree with OP 100%, almost posted the same request.

It would be great if both reverb and delay could be turned on and off permanently, so that they were not engaged when using the "SEX" knob.

That way you could still experience the expressive functions and vibrato when you increase the "SEX" knob (for expressiveness), but not have the added extra cheezy reverb and delay.

yes, I realize you can go into the advanced control and turn down the amount, but it does not stay down - next time you turn the SEX knob down and then back up - the reverb delay is again at full max.

Frankly, that makes what started out as a cool app kinda useless for me. My purchase was not to twiddle the knob, but to exploit the realistic sax sound (to double sax parts with our real sax player), without it sounding too cheezy.

Anyway, thanks emberton for making this available - outside of this issue, its a very good sounding Sax, but in the current form, kinda crippled and not useful for anything but gimmicky playing.

  • OK - didn't mean for that too come across so harsh above - just frustrated that I can't get a more "normal" sound out of this very excellent sounding Sax app.-

  • A "growl" knob would be awesome for crossing over to the Clarence Clemons side of sensual.

Hey Alex! Yeah I get that the central control is kind of an all-in-one-sound-gooderiser, so maybe keep that functionality but also give us the option to bypass or lock the reverb so that the mod-wheel becomes more about controlling the dynamics and expressiveness of the instrument, as opposed to controlling the FX blend as well. I'd most likely be recording the sax dry and then adding reverb in my DAW, so I wouldn't really want to be putting reverb on reverb when I switch to the hard/expressive notes :)

    Great work again though!

  • I dunno what you guys are talking about. First thing I do when opening the app is turn the knob up all the way. I just wish they would make it go to 11

As in, you should be able to switch between the two sample sets (normal and sensual) + vibrato, without altering the reverb mix. It's like if you had a sampled guitar and the palm mutes were dry, but the open strings had tonnes of reverb and vibrato on them. It'd be kinda weird, IMO.

I definitely understand the value of this suggestion , just at the moment turning it way up is ridiculously fun  Bring on the updates though

  • We need a sexiest sax showdown thread for everyone with this app

    +1

  • Also, only just realised, thus does not have Link. Would be very nice to complete the set.

Hmm, does it need it? Or do you mean to tempo sync the delay? Only just got into Link (now that Reason has it). Super cool stuff!

Yes, just that. But as it stands this is such a great sounding app, so no complaints.

FYI, this already exists! Press the little button on the sex knob and you'll see a switch for Sensual vs. Straight samples :)

Crossing my fingers that Apple Reviews and approves this update, like, YESTERDAY!

Hopefully you left in all the awesome SEXINESS too! ;) I love all that kitschy fun stuff. Make the app darn right more fun to play with. :)

  • @embertone any plans to release any other of your instruments in IOS? I play in a rock band with my brother and he is clearly a analog guy, you know valves amp sim, hardware pedals and so on. Usually he is fine with the piano and the organ but all othet acustic stuff coming from the ipad he simply rejects them as absolutely unrealistic. When I showed how your sax sounded he was BLOWN AWAY! This legato is a killer!

Looking forward to buy more from you if it's as similar level as your sax. FANTASTIC JOB!

  • More on the way, yes! Thanks for the support:)

Any teaser? More on brass or something like strings?

  • Thanks for the LUV mode and making it an audio unit in Auria since I've yet to upgrade to pro version

  • I didn't know before reading this review
    http://www.mi-pro.co.uk/news/read/review-embertone-s-sensual-saxophone-for-ios/021895
that Sensual Sax was made in collaboration with "Vietnam-based Blue Mangoo, makers of the innovative iFretless apps" Maybe some of you did.

This is a nice model for the future. Perhaps more iOS savvy developers like Blue Mangoo can team up with successful makers of computer virtual instruments.

No teasing! When we have something tangible/on the horizon we'll check in here. Thanks!

  • Yeah the app is absolutely awesome and with the new modesty setting even awesomer!!!!
Just needs to remember the setting permanently, coming in the next update ?
