Sampletank! The missing piece of the iOS puzzle (for me)

So I'm very late to the party but I finally bit the bullet and got Sampletank. And I'm finally getting a sound I'm happy with. No messing around with multiple apps and MIDI configurations. Just Cubasis, and a MIDI channel per instrument. I did, however, make my first goof and erase my multi instead of saving it. So I've gotta work out the kinks. But this I reckon this is exactly what I need to start sketching ideas out, plus I've now got a badass library for use with my DAW over MIDI.

So how do you guys typically manage your projects? Do you save a Cubasis (or Auria) project and then an accompanying Multi with the same name? Or can I state save inside of AB and get full recall? Curious to know how you're all working with it!

Also would you recommend the Pro sound bank? I bout the full version of the software plus all the core library addons. But it seems to have most of the bases covered so I'm contemplating Miroslav and Cinematic Percussion.

But yeah. Absolutely over the moon with Sampletank. Best impulse buy for iOS yet ;)

  • Sampletank is one app this is the best example of "to each his own".

One of the best days of my life was when I deleted from my iPad.

Yet, it's hugely popular, so it is clearly just preference.

The first one, (save a cubasis project, and a sampletank program), don't really like using audiobus since AUM came out, I'm using that or IAA directly into cubasis.

Any of the expansion sounds are worth it, a lot more good sounds than bad ones. Pro expansion it's really good.

Sampletank it's awesome (version 2 was a major push forward) but several of the samples they use are bad, the organ sounds are awful (except 1 or 2) and the brass sounds are generic for example, for that reason it doesn't work as an all-in-one for me. Also their ads are a major annoyance, watch out for those, BIG ads covering the whole screen that you can't dismiss easily. Some sounds remain locked unless you buy some hardware from them, etc...

So... I do think it's awesome... but it has several flaws and as a personal grievance I hate the way it looks on my iPad Pro 12.9. (They Didn't bother to adjust the resolution)

  • Somewhat of a friend with benefits, I do call, but not often....

  • I like to pair it with Infinite Looper for sketching. They both just remember each other and don't require much setup. When done, I export the midi and choose other sound sources in DAW. If they were to includ multi-channel audio outs, it might get more serious use, but for the above it's useful enough to keep around.

  • I like it for the Miroslav orchestra pack, rest of sounds I don't really use

  • I just re-discovered the Sample Moog IAP last night. I like the sounds of that one. Miroslav is pretty solid as well. I find the interface a bit clunky at times, and it's a HUGE app in terms of GB's, which can be rough. I never used it until I bought a 128GB iPad.

  • Love the Strat...I wish they would extract that single instrument into a standalone AU....then again it would probably be suddenly inundated with ads

  • I like the Miroslav and the Imperial Grand (most of the time the reason I open ST), ST would get a lot more use if it were au or had multiple audio outs

  • Can be used as a decent quality live sound rig. The fact that the sounds sustain while switching to a new sound is very helpful for live use.

The downsides are fitting the app in with other iOS setups. Run alone on one iPad with another for an AUM setup is where it would really shine.

And the adverts are really unprofessional.

  • As you can tell already, just use what sounds and feels good to you. Don't wait for that light bulb moment from everyone here. Do your own thing.
