Anyone know what's up with the big app icon when opening some apps?

edited January 2017 in General App Discussion

I recently updated to iOS 10.2 and on my iPad Air 2 I'm getting a weird bug that shows the app icon all big and pixelated for a split second on some apps right after opening them. Doesn't appear to effect anything, thankfully. Here's what it looks like (not to pick on DRC, like I say it happens with other apps too):

Comments

  • Happens to me too. No idea why

  • it is a certain loading or splash screen graphic that is missing in these apps. in previous iOs version, Apple would just use black instead when the graphic was missing but now they think it looks classier to blow up the app icon instead.

  • Could it be the iOS 'animations' that are causing this. I've turned on 'reduce motion' and have never experienced this with any app...

I suspect it's apple's fault. I get that on a few apps (air2 10.1), don't blame it on DRC or any other specific app, as I believe (as usual) apple changed something without caring for developers.

I don't believe it affects anything other than aesthetics.

@sinosoidal This may help with the reports you got on this......
@Samu is right in that turning ON reduce motion in the accessibility settings does mean the large pixelated icon doesn't appear, so it is something that ios10 wants for motion display on app startup. It seems it try to 'blow up' the app icon when starting an app as part of that motion animation.

Yeah it sounds like this is it. So basically Devs now need to upgrade their small icons to Hi def ones. Not that it's happened to me yet.

Edit. Ah, reduce motion. That's probably why I've never seen this bug.

  • What iPad?

I have diff things happen on iPad Air1 vs my Air2

  • Reduce motion does indeed fix this, plus I'm liking reduce motion. Two birds with one stone.
