Korg Gadget project Templates. Do you start with your own template?

I'm finally getting a very nice workflow together in Gadget.

I've also started using an 'init' Project template I created with 16 muted instances of Salzburg (could be any Gadget, just so long as the channel is created) with the midi channels preset to 1-16. Just mute & Solo where needed.

Just wondering if more experienced Gadgetheads have found their own useful templates for starting a project?

On a side note I bought the NanoKontrol Studio a couple of weeks ago and while initially disappointed in the lack of integration with many controls and Gadget, the workflow using those that do (transport, mute, solo) and having the Gadget full screen while controlling externally is great fun.

I've also nearly finished setting up Midi templates on the Novation X-Station for controlling all 28 Gadgets.

This trio of Gadget, NK Studio & the X-Station is a dream. Really excited to see how the new upcoming features can expand on this.

  • I have a little template with four tracks I pull up (drums, bass, ep, lead) often. Had a little 4/4 kick saved so I can 'just start'.

    Hubba hubba!

  • I used to use an X-Station myself. Nice controller with a great onboard synth. Mine got a bit old and unreliable though, wouldn't power off batteries and unreliable through USB

Ah yeah, I missed out that detail. I also have the first track as 4/4 kick on London. Simple, but like you say it gets you started quick.

The X-Station Templates for the Gadget are a mixed bunch. I started off matching up parameters to their explicit match on the X-Station but have gradually seen them become much more in line with the 'visual' layout of Gadget. Probably because I generally have the gadget on view in the app most times. Especially now with the NKS controlling the transport.

For example when the Gadget uses a group of 6 knobs for a section I'd use the 2nd filter on X-Station.

On Helsinki I've reversed the function of the 2 ADSRs, usually I'd assign the Amp Env to the 1st ADSR on the left but visually I'm aware that to match the Gadget, I have the Amp Env on the 2nd ADSR to the right.

Working out the 'ticks' for buttons selecting the different FX types had been interesting. For example the Wolfsburg Mod Matrix Source has 7 types. Setting the low to 9, hi to 118 and using a step value of 18 gets this working nicely. (Using the 8 buttons above the 2 ADSRs)

I've not added the parameter names yet. Whenever I get that done in the Editor I can share the bank with you if you're interested. Could be a while yet though. :)

Yeah batteries were quirky for me at first. I now use rechargeables. The X-Station charges them when plugged in which is great.

Not had any issue using usb though. Touch-wood.

  • Never even thought of it - but I will now.... the sooner I can get one started- the sooner I can scrap it..... and try yet again :)
