ROLI BLOCKS TO IOS: DROP DEAD
I mean, maybe. What do I know. Actually, it seems just an expansion into desktop.

It still astounds me how shitty that Noise app is. It's been updated several times and the recorder still cuts off the beginnings of phrases, drum pads randomly won't sound, etc etc.
I usually like this kind of thing, but the app is terrible and the blocks are spongy and expensive...really don't get it.....
I lost a bit trust in Roli since all about the blocks from the intro video to the half baked app.
Since months there are bugs with the Seaboard Rise software and Equator synth which doesn't get solved. Instead they focus on those "toys".
They changed into another "Apple".
From an awesome innovative company to another "make just as much profit as you can" thing.
I'm really dissapointed.
I spoke with one of the Roli product managers at CES and was told that there should be an iOS solution sometime in February that will make it easier to use Roli Blocks with non-Roli MIDI-compatible apps.
I mentioned that I don't tend to use Noise, but like to use my Lightpad Block with Animoog, Model 15, and Addictive Pro. You can't adjust the Lightpad's velocity curve for these apps, and MidiFlow can only do so much. I was told that the upcoming iOS solution would give you more control over how the Lightpad functions with these apps. We were talking specifically about iOS -- not Mac or PC.
We'll see what happens, but that was the message I got from them just two weeks ago.
I've played with them a bit at various Apple Stores, but didn't like the blocks themselves - not responsive enough and tough to trigger - and the app is really unintuitive.
they look nice tho.
Roli hasnt turned their back on IOS, the new features will work universally. ...
This ++
I bought a roli seaboard49 and i like it very! Equator is supperb too, esp. With the seaboard, but all around the ios / blocks stuff incl. This stupid noise app update change thing....the roli sun isnt shine bright anymore, but we will see,
after a storm, there is is allways a break in the cloud....
Hope they find back the road to their (music)customers.
And i dont mean the hipsters in the stores of Äpple.
I send them videos about bugs and the support is really fantastic and they even called me from London etc. but at the end it's not solved and i get "spammed" with all the blocks things.
I even tryed to sell my Seaboard and get another MPE controller, sadly it is still the best one out there (for my needs).
So if the blocks will be a better market for them i will not buy any Roli product ever.
The Rise is still the star for me but it feels like they abadonded it. I really was hoping for a Rise 2 instead of these blocks, aarrhhgh!
The block M now does space invaders I’m sold !
Love blocks, it is the most expressive controller I own. Noise app, while limited, is my most productive environment right now. Love they are selling through Apple too! Apple staff know how to sell them which means steady income for new development and ongoing support.
The Light Pad Block seemed like such a missed opportunity. I had one for a week before I brought it back to the Apple store last week. Was hoping for something akin to a mini Linnstrument but it ended up being a toy that I was extremely disappointed with. Triggering was sluggish, to unpredictable in most apps. Noise app had some fun presets, but even there it was hit or miss.
I just picked up an Arturia key step 32 for $100, and decided to save the rest of the money until I can afford a
Seaboard rise or Linnstrument. Extremely happy with the Keystep, plays very well with most apps w/ a very functional built in sequencer & arpeggiator.
I love Arturia products but I need to dig into the keystep manual. I'm never actually getting what I want from the controller when I want it, when connected to Ableton. It's probably me being stupid.
the old one does that too. lol
i love and hate my Roli block daily. As a controller of mpe instruments... love it. As an xy pad love it. as a drum pad... umm i’d say middle of the road once you adjust the sensitivity. .... as a keyboard...egh not so much. I wish I would have bought a seaboard block for that.
there is definatly a learning curve, and many frustrating phone calls to Roli to figure stuff out.( they where very helpful however)
I was expecting plug and play. However their software
is not so straight forward. they their synth “player” is limited. their full synth looks better but is another $80.
As hardware they have a nice setup, but I think their firmware and controller setup software have some way to go still. And they really need to make an easier way to setup the controller to play an Mpe instrument that is not Roli branded. Also their ios app range needs to exspand.
Overall I’d give it. B+, but after talking to the devs, I could eventually see this being an A+. just takes time. keep up they good work Roli.
I'm totally loving my seaboards. Flew back to India yesterday so never got a chance to grab a light pad block. Maybe next time I have relatives flying down....
Wow! You got a second one! Did you get the touch block? I ordered one from Roli, and the shipping was 3 to 5 weeks. Then I found one on Amazon prime with two day shipping. So, I may have an extra one I could send you in Goa.
Yup. Got a touch block too
. Btw. The one I had in San Fran was my second. Had already grabbed one in NY before I got there.
Interesting that he just said that the new surface is more tactile.
By ROLI's description I understood that it got a better sensitivity, with more control on what your playing. More sensitivity for strike and push is what I am looking for. Which would be the greatest improvement in my eyes, if they actually did accomplish that. But this was not mentioned in the video.
