stupid Mac question about a fresh install of Sierra

when you do a fresh install everything should be new right, so how come my favorites icons are still there when I click on the safari address bar?

  • It's only a "fresh install" if you first erase the target HDD. Otherwise, if you just go ahead and install over your current system, without erasing it, it's an "un-fresh install" and everything, including the trouble, will still be there.

  • I did erase it, that's why I was surprised to see... my bookmarks are gone, but the history is still there too :/

  • Safari iCloud sync?

does that work on it's own?.... I don't use iCloud and always choose 'later' cause I don't trust the cloud lol

If you chose 'later' then it's not it. But you can always check to be 100% sure: System Preferences -> iCloud

  • maybe that was it, the icloud drive itself wasn't check marked but safari was...it's weird that it was only my topsites and a little of my history that showed up, I had a zillion bookmarks and none of them showed up.

  • iphoto was checked as well, but there was only one photo..

thanks for helping me track it down :)
