My new video, "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" (edited with LumaFusion)!!!

Here's my classical guitar rendition of this famous celebration song, which also has a version with Portuguese lyrics ("Ele É Um Bom Companheiro").

Enjoy!

  • About LumaFusion, which is quickly becoming my go-to video editing tool, all platforms considered, it would be nice if we could have the option of saving the project bundle in iTunes or a cloud service instead of only having the ability of sharing/exporting the movie file. I simply cannot delete either the previous projects or any video I have in the library for fear of losing all my work. Please address this issue in an otherwise lovely application, LumaTouch team!

  • Sounds great,, thanks for sharing this. What are you using to record that classical guitar? Any tips for getting a good sound?

    Thank you, @Hmtx!

I used a cheap condenser, in fact: the MXL 990! I also recorded it inside a very small untreated room - as you can see in the video - and that usually makes the sound somewhat boxy - surely because of the dreaded "room modes". I applied ProQ2 to tackle some unwanted frequencies, and applied a slight ambience with Auria's built-in reverb (in my previous videos, I recorded with the MXL 991, a small diaphragm condenser, and left the sound dry and without any EQ other than low cut at 60Hz, you can compare them with this one).

The guitar itself has much to do with the sound, and it is a Minyard Martinez venetian cutaway model, which is a great and carefully crafted instrument, despite being made in China (actually, it used to be sold in Brazil by a company, now defunct, called Condor, and it used to be more expensive than the Japanese-made Takamines).

  • Thanks for the info. I've actually got those same mics. :)

  • hello @theconnactic
caveat: i am not a lumafusion dev.... if only i was!!
but Project with associated media export is at the top of the list for implementing. unfortunately I haven't seen it in any beta yet, last one was yesterday, a 1.2 release candidate. It does have a nice live timeline Voice over recorder function added which includes a quick Audioshare (or other apps) import button, other stuff is mostly fixes and refinements to interface..
    nice vid btw...

  • P.S.: I think @tmorgan is one of the LumaFusion's devs.

  • terri morgan is definitely one half of the lumafusion team, but i hadn't noticed her hanging out here in audiobusland?? great if she is..
