iOS NAMM Coverage
I just had an eye opening conversation with a buddy who was at namm. I was wondering why there was not great coverage for some of the products announced. No videos, no demos, nothing. For instance, irig keys I/O was there, but not covered by anyone.
Roland GO new keyboards didn't get covered.
Also, no korg gadget mac demo or decent interview with Korg.
Well, I feel enlightened now. NAMM, it turns out, is huge. There's 6,000 vendors and honestly way more to do and look at than any one person could do in two days. Each level has about the size of 5 walmart supercenters with an arena for concerts in the middle.
I hate admitting that the very specific things I am into are part of a niche market. Looks like I'll have to find a way to go myself!

Also weird is that nothing was actually, you know, demoed.
I have a real inkling to pick up an Elektron Digitakt — my first real piece of technolust. But then it occurred to me: i have no idea what it sounds like. The product introduction video? THE THING WAS UNDER GLASS. Same true, obviously, for Gadget. Even the Teenage Engineering OP-Z was kind of a drive-by with no real audio. Weird.
This year seems a bit low key compared to previous years. EHX introduced a "weird" pedal, which is good. But it's the Monday after NAMM and I'm not sweating -- what gives?
Sonic State's Playlist is probably the best overall view of what was new/interesting.
Couple of standouts for me:
Relic-6:
Dreadbox Abyss:
In the age of the Internet, I'm surprised it's taken this long actually.
Roli had their mini saturday night fever 70s dancefloor for ants thing on display i think
I was surprised to see so little software, much less platform specific software. Looking through MusicRadar's coverage you would think it's a guitar convention.

My buddy went and i knew about everything before he did.
Did he feel like a misfit?
