Roli Lightwave Block

Hey, I'm curious about this thing. Someone is selling one second hand unopened and I feel tempted to try it out. Is anyone here using one of these? Seems like a very expressive controller that will have more MIDI functionality added with a new program called dashboard to control anything in ableton live etc. The problem seems to be that it's not that open on iOS and I wouldn't like it to be limited to their noise app, which also doesn't support AB or IAA or AU3...
So I'm not sure how useful this is as a MIDI controller for other iOS apps or if it's even possible to connect to them. Does anyone know?

  • The Noise app is kind of toy-ish.
I've played with a Roli setup and it feels nice and solid built, but the pads weren't as sensitive as I wanted. Not sure you can set sensitivity preferences.

It's rather expensive and as you said, using it with other apps or your Mac might not be that pleasant.

  • Went to the apple store and tried the full setup. I was underwhelmed.

  • I really like mine. I've used it with other IOS apps. I use it mostly to play synths on my iMac and it works pretty much like the Seaboard RISE in terms of axis of motion. Very well made I think. Feels solid and in the end, if I were to get this just to have an MPE controller for my laptop, I feel its worth the price. Just my own personal opinion that applies to how I use it. I really love it.

  • Okay, thanks guys! I pulled the trigger for €130. It's so nice and small that it should be easy to integrate into a lot of stuff. I hope I won't regret it.
