iOS synth/sequencers with - replace record/ overdub record.

Hi- I am enjoying playing with Figure and iKaosslator at the moment partly because loop recording replaces your initial recording- and so you are left only with the new one. Are there any other apps that allow you to Record like this?
Cheers

  • Ids-10. Though it is a bit wonky with the non negotiable 16th note quantization and cv gate on the synth. In Gadget, you can play around with the "hold to erase" button for similar results. It will erase old notes while simultaneously recording new ones. There are no others I'm aware of. It's a shame, I think this feature is very useful and should be standard where applicable. Ikaossilator has the best implementation in my opinion. Followed by Gadget. I dunno what Figure is doing but it doesn't work too my liking if you turn off the rhythmic sequencer

  • OK- thanks- I was kind of thinking it would be along these sort of lines.- though I have not thought to try holding erase in Gadget at the same time as recording- I will give it a go. It should be standard- I wonder why it is not? Most hardware grooveboxes have this option- it is so useful & it must be fairly straightforward to implement.

  • yeah think of the hold to erase in Gadget as basically like having to manually enable the function in real time whereas in ikaossilator it does it automatically. It's so dumb this isn't more common. The seamless blending/replacing of notes lets you come up with GREAT melodies, real easily, because you can just keep playing on top, putting a note or a fill here and there. And you don't have to get it right the first time! So it's just fun and carefree

  • It is a very good feature, because once or twice in a musician's career, they might not play something perfectly. All of the other sequencers just pile your notes on the previous take, making a mess.
