MIDI Camera out now!
New app -- MIDI Camera, a MIDI controlled camera (surprise!), and a buck at launch. You can snap photos or toggle video recording using MIDI messages -- so wireless control is possible, and it's easy to sync things with a sequencer. @Axxx suggested the idea, and I finally got it wrapped up!

Awesome! I will surely find a use for this, if not several, most of them legal.
GIven that you said @Axxx suggested the idea, I am going to toss one out there. Feel free to tell me to go take a hike of course. But Philips Hue smart LED lights have recently found a home in my studio, and they'll do some amazing things. There are tons of apps for them already, but I dream of a MIDI app that would control them—sadly there does not seem to be one. Note velocity to control brightness, note numbers to control shades of color. I clearly don't get out much, but that is the dream.
What a cool idea, but why hasn't this been done a long time ago? Seems like one of those ideas.
Just curiosity: Why this very little app (1.0 Mb) needs iOS10 or later?
(I hope no reveal any industrial secret).
Not sure why this hasn't happened before -- when @Axxx suggested it, it seemed like something that should be available, but I didn't find anything like it.
I'm using iOS 10, because there was a new API added that makes using the camera a LOT easier. The code for the app is absurdly short, and 95% of it comes from a "how to use the camera" tutorial example from Apple(!). I used MIDIbus for the MIDI interface. Once I sat down to bang out the code, it was surprisingly easy.
Might check this out: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/play-chords-piano-game-for/id943016918?mt=8
Nice concept and implementation @SecretBaseDesign. Would it be possible to add a toggle for front/rear facing cameras....or did I miss that?
I think at 900 bpm, I'll fill my phone up in a few seconds!
Right now, it's just a manual toggle (tap the "camera" button on-screen). Depending on how things go -- I might add more triggers, so that you can switch between camera and video mode, switch which camera you're using, and also trigger a photo while in video mode.... I went with a lot simpler version, just to see if it got any traction at all -- with a bunch of different MIDI triggering options, I think it might be too complex for the casual user.
@brice -- I took a quick look at the LED bulbs, and it seems like something that could be hacked with MIDI pretty easily. I need another project like I need a hole in my head, but.... yeah, kind of looks like it would be a fun hack!
Sounds great...thanks @SecretBaseDesign.
Sweet! And brilliant idea @Axxx.
Trying to imagine a person who would use MIDI to control a camera that might fall under 'casual user'.
I'm very excited to use this for 24 time lapse. This should make it pretty easy to set it up so that you get a few shots overnight, lots of shots during sunrise/sunset, and some 'average' amount of shots during daylight hours making sunrise and sunset feel slower.
Would be a cool feature/value prop bump in v1.N to include a set of MIDI files for different things like 'take one shot every 5 minutes for an hour' based on bpm... Then folks could open-in their midi player of choice. That's probably a bad example because so most time lapse apps will let you do that but with a midi file you could make any sort of pattern like a shot per minute for 5 minutes, then a shot every 5 minutes, then ...
@SecretBaseDesign Thank you for new magic!
Do you think you could integrate functionality for the app to operate a remote camera connected to the device by WiFi? In particular I'm thinking of a substitute for Sony's PlayMemories iOS app, which is totally annoying, I think their API/SDK may be available.
PlayMemories Mobile by Sony Corporation

Operating my Sony QX10 remote camera lens thingy in conjunction with audio apps would be Da BAHHHM, totally.
I'm willing to grovel, if that helps.
Bought! Thanks Mr. Madden for another product out of your great weird scientist laboratory, your work is very much appreciated!
Now if it kind of did the opposite Video/Image data - Midi data out. I know a few apps convert images to sound, but nothing converts to midi data does it?
Nice creative use of MIDI
You mean for iOS? For desktop pcs there are some...
Edit:
Simple search show this
Hands-free OSC: control music with gestures por James Hudson
https://appsto.re/es/okSSdb.i
It requires a osc2midi translator but touchOSC or Lemur can do that. Also there is some apps that handle OSC themselves as input...
Another one:
OrigaMIDI por Valentin Burov

so what's your idea?
Having Wifi integrated would be cool. I was able to use MidiBridge as a workaround. My wife won't ever hold my iPhone now though
yes....she hears a C2 note from my iPad and the shutter on my iPhone and realized she had been had.
Great app once again. I'm very excited that I could use it through Bluetooth with apollo. Great for outdoor use. I believe filmic pro tried something like this and it was a fail (no Bluetooth capability). Apollo is an amazing app in itself, the latency is practically nonexistent.
Excellent! Now I can use this with MIDImorphosis and use my guitar to take crowd shots right from the stage, without missing a beat! ok...truth be told, I'll use it for action selfies.
This is very cool. Time lapse is a great idea. Also, will be good for stop motion without bumping the darn camera.
