Here is a cover of some vintage rock I did a couple years ago. A song from a band called Sugarloaf back in 1970. Had to use the "wayback" machine on this one!

Wow, that IS from the wayback machine and good quality recording equipment you had back there also... :) I am always a sucker for the organ sounds in this style. What did you use on this one for that?

While I believe Sugerloaf were from somewhere west of the Mississippi, this sound always reminds me of driving around southern New Hampshire with Mrs. Goodyear where (according to her) they play exactly the same Southern Rock on the radio now as they did when she was growing up there in the seventies...

awesome cover! Super tight band man. Grew up singing this song. Great job!

Thanks! @Bootsy. Just a solo effort on this one (which I know is what many of us do on this forum).
Love the Waits tune you posted. You have an impressive mastery of the Uke and the vocals ain't too shabby neither. It's awesome when listening inspiration leads to performance inspiration and you can hear it. Nice job!

Solo, that's even more impressive. Really thought it was a band performance.

No mystery, tell J I said hello. Some of my most memorable times working with her dad for 23 years at that Milford company you mentioned. This one definitely goes down in the "small world" record books :) .

She laughed and said yeah, but does he know which J?...(you're right; the taller one..... :))

  • This is a more of a Remix than a cover. I have the acapella of the song.

  • Just uploaded this cover so though I would share it here!
It was recorded and mixed in Cubasis and mastered in Auria Pro by Guy Mauseth.

The Beatles, who hasn't heard about them? But who has heard of their parody of the Shadows? Cry for a Shadow, a surprisingly unknown tune by one of the most influential bands. Here is a cover of Cry For A Shadow, I did with Guy Mauseth. The only Beatles song credited to Harrison/Lennon!
They recorded the song at Friedrich-Ebert-Halle within the gymnasium, Hamburg-Harburg, Germany while they were performing as Tony Sheridan's backup band for a few tracks, under the name the Beat Brothers.

    Colin Powell: Guitars
    Guy Mauseth: Bass

  • Funkee @studs1966 !
Nice retro feel and pleasant production @richardyot
Interesting, humorous and rather twisted version of Shaddup Your face @Bluepunk - love it!
Great uke playing and another accomplished cover @Bootsy
I remember this band from a UA compilation called All Good Clean Fun - which didn't feature this track - very professional sounding track though @Fasteddie

Very credible. Reminds me of The Travelling Wilburys....which would really put John and George ahead of their time, but nothing new there I guess...

  • @Fasteddie Ultra cool groove my friend. Those organ spurts are adorable, and they fit in perfectly. Good wholesome tune. What are the drums in the pic please? Have a fetish for old tubs n stuff.

@studs1966 Top limb shaker here studsy. Once the double bass hook settles in, she's a bugger to shift. That's a cracker. Fifty extra Keo's for smashing some Dimitri sounding guitar in. And for the sax? Have the brewery. Preferred Carlsberg.

@AlterEgo_UK Thanks Colin, I'll take twisted, along with mad, foul mouthed and certifiable. Good month so far. Ah man, this makes me smile all over. Really, it does. What about you two brilliant musicians though? Did you get a copy of your most recent line up pic for cover art purposes ;) No, seriously, the innocence you've played into this, without the pollution of the world tainting it, makes me... well, SMILE....... Please. :) :)

Thanks @Bluepunk. That is my first kit back in 66'. A Slingerland Gene Krupa signature set my dad found used.

Thank you. Could spend the whole thread talking drums and now you've mentioned that beautiful kit (have you still got it?) I'm off to keep mine company before the neighbours come home. A Slingerland Gene Krupa! Man! Stunning! Come over all faint here. Cheers.

Thanks Mr B. Don't know if your palette has tried "Leon" Beer too?.... lol. ;)

No, regrettably I ended up trading it in 1968 for a Ludwig psychedelic red five piece which I have managed to hang onto.

No sooner do I get done listening to this and A Hard Days Night comes on TCMs 31days of Oscars. All is good !

  • @Bootsy very nice performance. Much sweeter sounding than the original. The uke playing is outstandingly good and the vocal performance is amazing, lovely soft quality to the vocal that is very soothing to listen to. I prefer subtle singers to belters so your singing is right up my alley. Love the whistling too.

My only crit is that the reverb on the vocal is a bit bright sounding, the reverb tail is a bit distracting, if I was producing this I would get the engineer to EQ the reverb send.

  • @Fasteddie that is very tight and well performed - amazing that you played everything on this, that's some serious chops on guitar, keys, bass and vocals (and maybe even drums?).

The vocal is my favourite part, love the timbre of your voice. All round great performance, thanks for posting.

Thank you @richardyot! For the kind review and the critique. I usually use the cubasis reverb which has a brightness slider on it and it's default is up pretty high. Haven't played with it much but I guess I should experiment a bit.
    Cheers!

Much appreciated @richardyot ! As a drummer, a little embarrassed to say that the drums are programmed, but it just makes it so easy to build a song quickly. Not a real fan of the metronome either. I have been experimenting lately with live recording of electronic drums and hope to use them on some upcoming recordings.

Love the tunes you post on this forum and always appreciate your info and comments over on the Auria Pro forum too!

  • Hello,
I`m a new one from Germany. I lke this forum a lot. So I dare to post one of my Tracks here. Playing Live Keyboards for over 30 Years Funk Drummer by L.M. brought me back to ipad/Auria pro after disapointments with Ipad 2 years ago. I tried to cover one of my favourite Songs by EWF just to have fun and to get more recording- skills. Tell me honestly your thoughts about this track

  • @AlterEgo_UK I've read about that track several times in the many books I've read over the years about the Beatles, but I'd never taken the time to hunt the tune down and listen to it.

Anyway it's a great cover, the guitar playing is exquisite, and it makes for a nice and cheerful bit of historical whimsy. If you're taking requests, how tackling the medley from Abbey Road next? ;) I'm joking but you might actually be able to pull it off...

  • @Franketti that is some serious funky shit you have going on there. The sax(?) solo is my favourite part, it's awesome, but the whole thing is great - lovely laid-back jazzy groove, lovely keys playing (great electric piano solo in the second half), fantastic musicianship, playing with real swing. Vocal is nice as well. Really enjoyed that, and the production is top-notch as well.

  • Thanks @richardyot I will think about it!
