Do you use REASON?
Do you use your ios device directly into it as an instrument?
Is it ios friendly setting it up?
I have Ableton, Acid, and Cubase.
What is different about Reason?
It is pretty cheap these days, thinkin about grabbin it.
Thanks

For me, the paradigm of a physical studio, complete with racks of equipment that you can patch as you see fit, a simply astounding recreation of an SSL 9000 mixer, as well as the new 'Players' in the latest release are reasons I love this DAW. Having come from that environment earlier, FOH mixing and studio engineering, it just pushes all the right buttons, so to speak.
TBH, I haven't done a lot of interfacing between iOS and Reason as I tend to work in either one or 'tother.
Reason is amazing. I haven't used it since version 5 when it was MIDI only but I can't speak highly enough about such a fantastic tool. Made some music on there which thrilled me. I guess it's somewhat relate-able to Gadget in that people asked for audio tracks for years and one day finally got them!
I used to love it, haven't used or updated it for years though, too busy with iOS shenanigans
I've been a Reason user since day one. I'm still on R7. But I've ran the R9 demo with my Ipad and ableton link. I'll upgrade one of these days. But I tend to use my ipad more than my Mac. What's all this talk about Reason being cheap these days? Unless there's a sale, it's normally $399.00.
I didn't realize 9.2 is out and they added new features to the RE SDK. It took them long enough. But I'm happy to see that. I've been avoiding buying REs since I started buying ipad apps in 2014. iOS apps are a hell of a lot cheaper. But with Apple wanting to cut off all 32 bit apps, I know at some point they won't work in iOS 11. Propellerhead always make sure that REs will still be compatible years from now. So while they cost more, I'll always be able to use them. So at some point, I'll stop buying iOS apps and leave Apple behind before they attempt to leave us behind, forcing us to spend more money on new iPads.
I love the whole concept and I love the sounds. I used it a ton at first but fell off once I got into Ableton, and then I bought Logic a year ago and use that almost exclusively (legit licenses for all -- my younger self paid for three full DAWs). More recently, i actually paid to update to Reason 9, and then I bought Parsec 2 a few months back, convincing myself that I would become a Reasoner again. But so far it hasn't stuck and I'm still using Logic even though it doesn't have Link.
Sounds like me on iOS, but more expensive since PC software often costs a lot more (minus open-source and free plugins, most of which cannot match the quality of paid stuff).
I'm still using Reason 5, simply cause my laptop screen is too small for Reason 6 and above.
I Hardly use it along side the iPad unless designing Drums with Kong and creating Thor Patches.
I'm sure I heard something about Propellerhead making something new for iOS a good few months ago.
So did I...........
It's pretty bad, honestly. I held onto my Tascam 788 for almost a decade, and when I finally decided to get into laptop recording, I mistakenly assumed that there was a "right" DAW "for me" instead of just learning the first one inside out like I did with my Tascam.
Common story.
I think it's just a musician thing, lol. xD
love the reason rack
this is made with just 7 instances of px7 (dx7 clone)
also reason rack is super flexible.. i made this vocoder from scratch using unrelated devices (a signal analyzer sending cv signals to modulate an eq). You can see the wiring in the thumbnail.
Big up Reason crew! Favourite DAW by far. I use my iPad with it, using the external MIDI rack. Works great, especially driving my iPad synths with Reason's pattern and CV devices. And with Ableton link sampling Gadget or any other link enabled app is super easy.
Do you use Reason? No. I dont use Reason or Logic. I am completely irrational. Sorry couldnt resist.
I use Reason, but I have yet to try running any iOS synths into it. I can't see it being much different than my other DAWs since I can run hardware into Reason just fine. Odd that I've never tried this, I might give it a go this weekend, maybe what the track I'm working on really needs is some ODYSSEi action...
I used to use reason 10 years ago or so and I loved it. Then I got into ableton live and iOS later on and every once in a while I thought I'd like to check out the latest version. But I never did. When I bought a used nanokontrol studio I got excited because I thought I could finally get the very light bundled version of reason 9 but of course the code didn't work anymore. Disappointing... And the full version definitely isn't cheap:-(
Reason has exceeded all expectations for me ...I'm so glad I didn't blow twice as much money on Ableton as I had originally considered.
It's the perfect setup for me, from the look, feel and workflow. Love the incredibly powerful players, and the awesome included instrument set. I'd say the sounds are close to a draw with Logic , but the inspirational environment puts it over the top for me.
To compliment the players, I picked up a few other apps to assist with composition, "Scaler" , "Chordz" and "Harmony Navigator" ...the former two = VSTs & the latter = standalone, but sends midi to reason. I couldn't recommend them enough, especially to those with a lot of music theory to learn.
Does anyone recommend any in depth learning resources (books or videos) that go into a deep dive of Reason, perhaps including sound design with its virtual instruments, cv routing, etc ? .. I'm currently watching a Lynda course that deals with reason 9.5 , but its seems mostly aimed at beginners.
