I happen to like this one... but noticed it doesn't work with apeMatrix or AUM anymore. Still works with AB3 though. Anyone know if the dev has mentioned an update? Or, is the seemingly perpetual $1 sale pretty much the end of this one?

It is finicky, but I got it to work in both hosts. It is that splash screen when you open it, it seems to me. Try opening the app first, then loading it up.
Also, in apeMatrix, you won’t see Photophore listed in the Midi Matrix, but it is in the midi output plug symbol as an IAA destination. The ape KB triggered it fine, once I manually connected it.

Hmmm... doesn’t work at all for me in apeMatrix or AUM. Just a black screen after I load it. Makes no difference if launched before launching host or after. I’m running iOS12.1 on 10.5. You?

    IOS 12.1 on an Air2.
Can you use it standalone, or is that black screened as well?

Hmm, I just opened this again after ignoring it for an eon (not literally) and I revert what I said above nearly two years ago.

I consider it a good app for pathetic sounds. Now, that’s not a criticism. Sometimes you want your sounds to be strident and confident and bollock-grabbingly in your face. Sometimes, however, you want the enfeebled, the weak and timid, the sounds that lack confidence, are insecure and can’t keep a straight tone because they’re poorly and aren’t well. Sometimes you want a pathetic sound – purely for the atmosphere and feel. Sometimes you want your sounds to be a bit distant, can’t quite make it to the front row, and are a bit crumpled. Sometimes you want your sounds to remind you of an antique record playing toy which hasn’t been wound up fully, and is in another room anyway – possibly a haunted room, and there’s actually nothing in there, yet you heard it. Here it is – this app is how to make pathetic sounds that you’ll find highly useful. I think I’ll be paying it a bit more attention now.

This is actually a pretty good description of this synth (and I LOVE this synth).

The first half of this track (until the rhythm hits) is made with just Photophore and my wife making wind and animal sounds with her voice. I think that it worked great here for exactly the reasons that you described!

  • I like this synth for ambient vox like ghostly sounds...other than that it really has nothing that really grabs me

Standalone works as does AB3. Just not apeMatrix or AUM. Haven’t done a hard reset in awhile, so maybe I’ll try that. Just wanted to see if it working for anyone else before I troubleshooted any more. Thanks

Edit: took some doing, but got it working in both apeMatrix and AUM.

  • I really enjoyed that @OscarSouth very entertaining. And professionally done.

So I dug out this app again to see how it is stuck through iVCS springverbs and Virsyn AudioReverb and it sounded very atomspheric. Its limited but you can get hoovers and basses but who doesnt have 10 synth that cover this ground now.
I responds to all midi channels however, even after changing the input channel in the settings, so very annoying

  • I'll echo the disappointments. Very underwhelming sound quality. Towards the bottom of the iOS synth heap.
