Please sell me iwavestation

Even though people have said this synth can be more, much more than 90's commercial sound this is all i can find in demo's. Please link anything that shows what else it can do. Post a track that displays cool morphing or sounds or video. Can this be a suped up helsinki?

I got an itch and can't decide whether to scratch it or apply some ointment.

  • Take it back to basics, ignore the wavesequencing for a while, and treat it as a simple synth that plays wave cycles. Then treat it as a slightly more sophisticated synth that can move between two choices of wave cycles. Then add two more, and for that you'd need to grab your joystick to get between four sources. That's it.

Oh, if you want, you can go to wavesequences, which are intended to be slow drifting metamorphosing alterations from one position of wave settings to another, but you can abuse this by snapping the envelopes of fading transitions to a few microseconds, causing the transitions to 'step' through. But, seriously, I'd advise putting that special effect toy aside for a while, it's not the whole thing, just some icing on the cake that everybody notices first.

  • Sounds like sage advice.

  • You can literally get cool sounds from it by simply stacking/layering a few wave/timbres. That's without the sequencing. The Random button can provide hours of joy. Then take into account you can tweak the results in many many ways. It's pretty deep. The demos sound like that because that's what the original sounded like so people expect that. My understanding is that it was a bitch to program though. Now it's not, so....new cool sounds

  • I believe it was YouTube or it is not true?

  • I'm impressed with the sounds that can be had from using the attack from one sound but the sustain of another sound. Hybrid mutants. It doesn't sound 90's to me.

  • You can get some cool rhythms with the random button:

Or just use the sounds for further mangling in FieldScaper:

  • I don't get it. If you can't see the value in it save your money for something else :)

Echoing this sentiment -- I saw a lot of love for iWAVESTATION so I bought it on sale. Ive messed around with it and I'm still having a tough time getting excited about it. Maybe once I finally rtfm cover to cover I'll have an "aha!" moment, but as it stands, I wish I had gone out for sushi instead.

  • Great synth, but if you're unsure wait for the next Korg sale as they have 2 or 3 a year.

  • Bought it don't use it :-)

  • @richardyot I love that rhythm track--right up my alley. How hard to get that result--and is it easy to get varied results or do the tracks mostly come out with "that sound".

Getting that result is very very easy, just hit the random button until you get something you like. And yes, "that sound", or something very much like it is what you will get, but there's plenty of scope for further mangling or tweaking with other apps etc...

  • yeah, last night i found some videos crossfading sound into another, gets rid of that choppy signature sound and evolves. also like what i saw with the envelope, one wave morphing into another. based on that i can see that i would use it but don't think it's worth it at the current price. if and when there is a sale i'll nab it.

that's what i have been doing but so many people raving about a synth i can use in my beloved gadget makes me second guess my pass

    It has a pretty icon.

  • I had my doubts about this synth, but it has turned into my hands down favorite for the iPhone. The only bad thing is that it's so fun to play with that I haven't been getting any actual song compositions done!
