iSem & Modstep reproducible crash
Do any of you know what the best way to report bugs to either Arturia (ugh) or the Modstep developers is? I've finally returned to music-making after having my first child and wow has iOS come a long way in 10 months. That being said, the issue/bug I'm encountering has put a serious damper on my renewed optimism about iOS.
To reproduce, simply load the iSem AU into a melody track in Modstep, work on a patch, then try to rename and save the patch. When you go to rename the patch and save it, iSem will disappear, you'll lose your patch, and you'll have reload iSem. I'm on an iPad 4, everything updated to most recent version.
Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

I also get weird preset recall with iSEM and Modstep. In addition, notes hang/overlap when pattern speed is anything less than 1x. Fine with internal instruments though.
Thanks, @chimp_spanner, sounds like maybe I should look into getting poison after all. Trying to stick to all AU instruments and effects for that total recall goodness (and because I'm so used to the AU/VST in a DAW paradigm).
I found how to report a bug to the Modstep developers, so I did so. I might not even bother with Arturia. Bleh.
Personally, I don't use AU in Modstep. Just midi.
AU host is AUM, much better control and stability...
Isem, to me, is an abandonware. Very cool synth, but it won't be upgraded anymore amho.
Modstep is a black box regarding bug reports and support...
They never respond, to me, at least.
@crony so you send the MIDI from ModStep to AU instruments hosted in AUM? I'm a big fan of AUM, but my goal is to use as few apps as possible, because most of my music time these days is on my metro ride into work...
...of course, if it provides the stability I need...
@5pinlink That's a bit disappointing. Even an email acknowledgment would be nice. Did the bugs/issues you reported get fixed, though?
if true that is utterly disappointing. i was going to base my entire workflow on modstep. I'd rather not do that if they're already moving on to something else.
iOS giveth and taketh away
that is how I interpreted it -- as something else, not a replacement for Modstep.
good to know that Modstep development is slow. best to temper expectations and exercise patience, I suppose. "ommmmmmmm"
@5pinlink To be fair there's betas out currently in the last week to fix a lot of AU related issues. And also to add something else. not sure if we're allowed to talk about it though. All i will say is be patient. some of this stuff is being fixed
its definitely still being developed.
Ah, that's good news ! Hope they'll add undo/redo and a more user friendly UI for the midi notes, which, to me, is a real nightmare...
But I do less notes like this, so I might stay on scale doing minimal stuffs
First, congrats on the first child!
This is what I do for AUs. With presets in both apps, it's fairly quick to load. Wish modStep supported AB state saving so you could just pull it all up at once instead of playing the "matched preset name" game.
I would use iSEM a lot more as AUv3 it it wasn't so insanely slow to load...
@syrupcore I need to test that for program change into Modstep to load the preset of the synth (that support it of course) as Isem doesn't...
Sorry to say that but fuck state saving.
Program change are there for that, they always have been.
Fuck Isem also, with program change, problem should be solved.
Almost as dumb as their Moog like app. Never updated, always missing things that would have make a must have and also useful app. But no, they just don't do anything about it.
