Manchester is the sun around which most of my musical universe has orbited for the last 30 years or so. I've always imagined you could just walk outside with an instrument and have an amazing band going within the hour. Have you tried leaving the house?

    :D yeah, that normally helps.

  • Do it man.

It is the best experience musically, period. It is like audiobus forum except that you actually breathe the same oxygen and feel the same vibrations as the others. Unless of course you end up with ego maniacs, grooveless people or just folks who don't like the same kind of stuff as you in which case it can be very hard work. I've been in 4 creative projects that I've co-funded here in Oxford and loved all of those experiences. I have to say though I've been very lucky to find the right people.

The best way is always to start your own project rather than joining an existing band but of course there's no rules. If you decide to start one yourself it's definitely going to be more energy consuming but totally worth it.

    Just my 50p

I couldn't leave without mentioning these as an influence too...

I think there are wide swathe of us who may live in different parts of the Venn diagram but would have to admit that Teardrop, if not Massive Attack more generally, have been an influence in one way or another....must be cold in Salford about now....

Elizabeth Fraser is one of my top fave singers - I love her voice.

As for the other stuff Andy posted, all good. It's possible (but not easy) to be in a band that's spread across the country. My lot are a couple of hours away in different directions, but worth the drive and hassle for the end result. We try and rehearse/jam at least once a month, and the rest of the time its file swapping and overdubbing time.

Back to EF, I'm listening to this constantly at the moment:

Hmmm. Tiersen has what many folks I know imagine they want (as regards the musical life....). I have always been taken with this:

    So simple, but lovely pretty.

Yeah nice. Mrs Fraser's voice takes me to heaven though. A bit of magic going on there.

If I tried playing outdoors round here I feel I would either get arrested or robbed lol....I used to play in a band years ago so both want and understand what you mean here.....I have no idea where around here to look for likeminded people or to get heard.

    Yes a lovely voice indeed

  • @MonzoPro. Thanks for the gift. This Elizabeth Fraser song is a gem.

  • To return the favor. Matt Ulrey: In the Ivory. It's not for everybody. So right up your alley.

  • This song was the first song I ever listened properly to the words...

  • ...Is my timing that flawed?

Just one of the great and plaintive lines....

  • edited February 2017

I've always been about the sound...not the words...

And I still got more influences to go... :D

  • And delving deeper...

  • Now I need to go find a hawkwind track :)

  • That didn't take long..
