Does Apple know what they have?

It's a very good article detailing out how Google initially released Android as an open source project, as a type of trojan horse, to spur adoption since they had zero market share at the time and after that helped them gain a big market share how they've gradually been making it as closed and controlled as possible.

By the way, Apple's open source site contains source code for OSX and all OSX releases going back a decade to 10.0 are available as browsable archives. iOS, like OSX, is based on Darwin which is based on FreeBSD and Apple has also contributed a large amount of code back to the open source community, like WebKit and zeroconf networking.

Android was already found to be the least open of open source-based platforms a few years ago: http://www.technologyreview.com/view/424925/its-official-apple-is-now-more-open-than-google/
