@syrupcore Thanks man...You're one of the first to respond and "GET IT!" Many people do not understand the purpose of the carved out sections.....It's pretty brilliant. Now your suggestion is great and we already have plans in version 2 to offer you to carve the velocity range of interest using a graphical means. You set the low and high velocity range, and everything will be adjust such that the new EP is the carved out ranges.

Wasn't really a suggestion but I'll take it! From your description in the video, I thought that's how those 'EP X' sounds were made. Just meant to say that re-purposing the existing sampling library in that way is a really clever idea. And it sounds great.

@GospelMusicians - any thoughts on a timeline for the release of the new version? Price point?

Love the app, and I just upgraded to an iPad Pro 12.9, so now I can REALLY push this baby to the max.

The App version will be March 6. I have no ETA on the iPad version, but the same code works. We will just have to get the samples down to about 3GB. That is our goal. If we released today, the samples will be sitting at 6GB with CAF lossless, which actually is not bad. at 6BG, it'll be EXACTLY like the desktop version ;-)

Some people want it exactly like the desktop version. :'(

Indeed. Though I can definitely appreciate working to get the library size down for mobile devices. What's the method to get the samples down to 3GB? Compression or omission or? If omission (fewer velocity layers, samples every 5 keys instead of every key...), would be cool to be able to optionally download the rest.

Cutting it by 50 percent seems severe. iPad version needs to be just as first-class as Desktop.

Definitely buying this Jewel the day it rolls out. Neo-Soul Keys is by far my favorite instrument on iOS.

    Ahhh man thanks...means a lot...!!!

Hahaha....90% of the people will not be able to tell the difference between a Rhodes with 20 velocity layers and say 12. There is just not that much variation, but it seems the masses have spoken on the higher quality...haha!

  • Caff Lossless took 21GB down to 5.89 GB. That's absolutely no loss....Not bad at all!

Totally agree. Especially if folks are using cheap portable midi keyboards to trigger sounds and listening through earbuds! :) Which is a lot of us. Or a lot of us some of the time anyway. If it's possible to make the default small and allow for additional downloads, that'd be aces. Speaking for myself, I'll want that new Wurli in all of it's glory but might choose to keep the other instruments slim, for instance. And don't really have any interest in the Clav (sounds amazing, I just wouldn't use it).

Actually, with resources generally limited on iOS and the possibility of lots of other stuff going on in AU land, it might be a cool feature for mobile (one day) to have a 'fidelity' slider. Full left is one velocity layer and more sample/key interpolation (or whatever you feel the minimum is) and full right is all layers and max samples. The app doesn't even load the samples for the other layers until the slider is moved to that point. And if those samples aren't available in the original app download, the user is prompted to download them. Sometimes when you just need a little electric piano as a track in a tune, full left might be plenty. Or you can run it like that until you're ready to bounce to audio at the end. Can still do things in the background like mapping velocity to the filter and amp envelopes to give the illusion of more samples.

  • @syrupcore Yea man...we are figuring it out ;).

:) I'm just spit-balling. Can't wait to get my hands on the new version. Now if I could only play like you...

Man I got hours upon hours of instructional videos over at http://gospelmusicians.com/. Got to just get the lessons.

Look to the future not the past...in the era of 4K video average iOS storage is only going to continue to increase. True quality in a product means going all the way beyond even what we think the masses may perceive.

Besides If most people can't tell the difference then there's no point in 6Gb on Desktop either. Excellence through and through is my vote.

  • What?? I'm too busy leaving random comments on the Internet to actually spend time practicing anything!

  • Neosoul still one of my favorite apps, new functionality sounds great especially the carved out velocity layers

  • I'm grateful to have a 12.9 Pro with ample space available. I'd rather pay more and give up the space for a pro product compatible with my other pro iOS apps than for a suite of mini apps that are stuck in a box, like Gadget. I also appreciate seeing a developer who is passionate about his product and participating in open discussion, without making hyped promises about possibilities for some future version while rushing out bits and pieces.

I really hope you can sort things out with options for the various ipad models.

  • Weird problem with my Arturia Keylab 88 and Neo-Soul Keys, where I get a lot of hanging notes, regardless of latency settings. If I use an app like Midiflow and just use the Neo-Soul Virtual Midi, no problem although there is a noticeable latency there (which doesn't change with the latency controls). Strange, as with Korg Module or any other app - no problems at all, no matter how heavy or fast I play.

I've tried turning off aftertouch etc, but still no difference. I'm running an iPad Air 2, and have tried this with both usb camera kit adapter and my Focusrite iTrack Dock.

  • My iPad was stolen 2 days ago! Also my Android phone. So, I bought my first iPhone and loaded up my iPad music apps. Some work, some don't. I am seeing the free Neo Soul Keys app discussed above, on "get," so I got it and see what others are seeing. I am also seeing their "Studio 2" for $25. I of course have the original, which does not work on my new iPhone 11. Is this "Studio 2" FOR iPhone? I have to "save up" for a new iPad, so if it is an "upgrade" of the original studio for iPad, I don't need it just yet. Thanks!

  • Neo-Soul Keys Studio 2 is a universal, upgraded version of Neo-Soul Keys Studio 1 (which was only for iPad).

  • And there was a version available before that that ran on the iPhone
