Anyone come across IOS Chinese Traditional Instrument Apps?
I know this might be rare to the user here since most of the user coming from Europe and USA, but I would like to ask is there anyone using chinese traditional instrument apps? It might not be Audiobus support, but at least there is build in recorder to record what I play.
Comments
I have a bunch of them, but they don't get used much due to either usability issues, or hassle recording them.
@PaulB can you recommend 1 or 2 which is decent? maybe the zither.
Fun, yes. Decent, no. If they were decent, I'd be using them.
The Chinese zither is called a guzheng (古筝). There are plenty of them in the app store. GuZheng HD says it has recording capability, but I have never used it so I can't tell you if it is very good or not. There is also a smaller instrument called the Guqin (古琴) to check out. Most Chinese instrument apps lack recording capabilities.
@MrNezumi , Ya... Haha... Never think of you can write Chinese... I have asked dev from MEET Studio, they say they will put recording as next update...
You might try this combination:

I've had great success with Bismark's BS-16i and also with Digital Sound Factory's products. Audiobus and Virtual Midi capable too. :-)
The guzheng app looks real expressive and promising

See the YouTube videos ..it's pretty awesome but dorms that've recording and audiobus yet so not very useful directly.
The bs16i sound fonts do look tempting but I want a more expressive control on the ethnic sounds. Would the Animoog keyboard /MIDI control work with bs16?
I hope ThumbJam adds support for soundfonts , that would be really cool. ...or even Cantor
I think Thumbjam can act as a controller for BS-16i...
@thepinkelefant I have try iGuzheng, it is pretty good, and the recording file is .igz, which i not sure it can convert to other format...
the interface is good, string bending also nice, but there are 2 or 3 strings that sound like muting a little bit, this is the down side of the app....
Have you checked out bs-16i with a soundfont? Here's a link to a popular soundfont site..

Ya your best bet is soundfont which you can get some great sounds out of if you get the right SoundFonts. I know DigitalSoundFactory offers specifically World Soundfont packs and if you use "YEAR6" at checkout you get 40% off right now
@JMSexton I believe the DigitalSoundFactory deal is over now...
I just used it two days ago...but it sure when it expires
Interesting, the announcement that DSF sent me in the mail said it ends August 18th. I didn't get around to buying the soundfont I wanted, and assumed it was expired on the day the announcement said it would expire. However, after your post, I went and tried it, and was successful!!! Thanks!!! :-) So, as of right now, it appears to be working. :-)
P.S. The code is 6YEARS
Crap I did it again, I did the same thing at checkout, typed it in reverse then and to comeback and check the forum
i also have iguzheng. Also check out magic zether. And while it's not chinese, but japanese, ikoto deserves a mention
@gjcyrus - where you been at?!?!?! You've been missing!
Oh sorry, spelled it wrong. magic zither.
@JMSexton - thanks! Well, ya know theres been a lot of, ahem, great movies recently that have taken my time
In all seriousness, my serious adult job took a lot of my time and had to leave to Seoul and Tokyo for a few weeks. Completely OT, but in Seoul, they weren't dancing Gangnam style, they were doing the LMFAO shuffle moreso.
Might have known you'd have come across a few. Surprised your girlfriend didn't catch you in mid flow...
+1 on iGuzheng!
The expressiveness is awesome!
Hope it gets onboard someday
