vocal / mic input help

Anyone have a good suggestion for vocals in Cubasis? I have been trying to record using AB and Singaling, Bias with AU push through iTrack Dock and can't get what I want. I'm not that picky, but I can't get anything with good volume AND stereo at the same time....I'm starting to wonder if I just have a shitty mic. If anyone has good recommendations for solid / usable vocal recording I would love to hear.
Thanks

  • What mic are you using?

  • Audio-Technica ATR-1300

  • It's a dynamic mic, they're typically very quiet and need a fair amount of pre-amp gain, or boosting in post.

Have you tried normalising the vocal track as a first step? Before adding any additional effects.

  • I haven't. Good thought though, thanks

  • I'm biased of course since it's partially my app, but MicSwap Pro is on sale until the strike of 12am on Wed. Use it standalone or connect a mic or interface & record with 15 different sounding microphones. There's a gain knob which should help with your levels. AU, IAA, Audiobus compatible.

  • I have MicSwap. What are key features of the Pro version?

MicSwap Pro works with any mic or interface that connects to your device. It includes all mics and studio environments, and there's no limits on any recording and is AudioBus, IAA and AU ready.

  • Ok I upgraded to MicSwap Pro. Not seeing in in Cubasis IAA or AU. Any suggestions?

  • @jc-maluca it should show up. If not, restart your device. It should come up like this in the pic. If you're still having trouble email us through the app and we'll get it going for ya.

  • Ok got it, thanks. I was looking for the AU under the instruments menu

  • Without knowing your experience level -
Keep in mind a mic IS a mono instrument. Whether selecting the input in AB or Cubasis, select only the input the mic is plugged into. Otherwise you are feeding 1/2 the signal of the mic and 1/2 the (presumably) silent 2nd input.
Most iOS fx do output stereo by default, but in the case of a mic or guitar input to the fx chain it should always be mono.

Turning a single signal from a mic into stereo just doubles the file size for near-zero audio benefit/difference. L/R fx you can do with the Pan control and/or stereo fx settings after recording.

So why is sacrificing an otherwise desirable result on the altar of "stereo" so important to you?

I encourage you to experiment with mono, it sounds awesome, try it! :)

    Hi garygary,

From the screenshot it looks like you're running an old Cubasis version.
