    Yes

  • Nice of Propellerhead updating Rebirth. Shame they didn't add Ableton Link tho, like they added Link to Reason now.

Probably just been recompiled to 64 bit.

  • Too bad the mods resolution can't be improved.

  • LinkLinkLink...damn

  • Well that was exciting for a second...
    :|

  • I notice it does not mention iOS 10 on the update ;)

    Your probably right matey.

  • Hah! Only just dumped this off the iPad a few days ago.

ffs, no Link. To be fair, no one at Props ever said it would get Link, but if you're going to update your apps, then put Ableton Link in there too. Please. Muppets

  • Tough crowd in here again tonight.

  • People seem to think Link is something you can just effortlessly throw into an app. The core of ReBirth was written 20 years before Link was invented... it may be quite a tricky job to retrofit it in such ancient code (especially without much of an obvious benefit for the Props).

This update is obviously a courtesy update for existing users to make sure it will keep on working after the 32 Bit Purge. I for one am quite happy with that gesture.

Isn't it ? I thought that was the point of Ableton providing the SDK to those devs who wanted it. If they're going to the bother of updating the ACP sdk, then surely it isn't beyond the abilities of a major company like Propellerheads to implement Link, considering it's already part of their flagship Reason down to the free Figure. Seems like an opportunity missed to me. I don't want to appear ungrateful, at least it still works for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for the continuity update props.

  • If I recall correctly the port of ReBirth for iOS was done by the same developers that are behind the current ACP...
I would have been super happy with classic 'Open In...' for the audio export :)

    Fair.

You're right, and Ableton deserve a lot of credit for creating a well-documented SDK with solid example code. But at the same time it's a really "demanding" SDK in the sense that Link takes over anything timing related in your app at a very fundamental level. It's not something you easily bolt on, but rather something that potentially requires you to carefully remove your own engine and replace it with Ableton's timing paradigm. This means that it could prove quite a hassle to rewrite everything timing related in an existing app to accomodate Link, especially if it's an app where the sequencer and synth parts are already 20 years old and the original authors may not be available anymore.

Just speculating, of course because I obviously haven't seen Rebirth's source code :)

One of the good things about updates is they tempt you to whip out the thing and have a fiddle.

I haven't really used this much, but just had a very pleasant half an hour's twiddle and discovered a few features I'd missed - such as the Mod randomise and transpose options. It complained a bit in AUM, until I found the exact loading sequence it was happy with, but a very pleasant thing. Might record something silly with this later.

  • The update strikes here as FANTASTIC news: ReBirth was one of the apps I kept fretting over being left in the iOS dust.

    ¡Viva! ReBirth!

Love ReBirth for it's sounds, not so much for getting anything composed that I can make much use of. It don't get opened so much any more since @brambos gave us Ruismaker and Troublemaker, but every time I do it unlocks something great creatively just because it's so damn different to Gadget, Modstep, Auria, etc.

I'm really glad to see that they updated it, if only to keep it from the purge. It was a sad, sad day they stopped supporting the iPhone version.

Not so sad, really, Many ReBirth for iPhone users went on to become successful microsurgeons.

  • lol! Thanks for that one. I needed a laugh.

  • I don't think they've done anything to it at all - it still looks fuzzy, mushy and out of focus on an iPad Pro.

  • Looks pretty clear on the default mod on my pro, bit fuzzy on some of the others I concede.

  • Surprised they haven't updated the graphics to be sharper - can't be that hard can it?

I'm surprised, and grateful, they updated it at all.

Having had a quick look at reskining Caustic and run a mile I think you would be surprised just how many hours work it would entail.

  • And you have to ask yourself whether they have anything to gain by it? I kind of doubt many people are still grabbing this app, and if they are then how many net new customers a re-skinning would bring in. I'm guessing that @brambos is right, they just did a bare minimum update to keep it from getting flushed down the 32 bit toilet.
